Installing a Glacier 2 micron

Now that my wife is no longer laid-off I am going to order the Universal in-line 2 micron.

Couple questions.

3/8 or 1/2 in and out?

Do I need fuel hose or do I just splice the filter into the present hose?

Or...

Am I better off ordering the Big Line kit?

How often should the factory filter (For water separation purposes) be changed since it isn't really filtering anymore?

Go for the big line kit and put the 2u filter after the stock filter. Richard has directions on his site that are very good.

That's the way I'm planning on doing it, too!

I just installed mine last week. Great instructions made for a super easy install. I got the big line kit with the cylinder head mounting bracket. I to would like to know what you guys recommend on mileage between filter changes.

If you have the stock fuel pump go with the 3/8 lines. I have had my Glacier system on my truck since new, not a single issue. Make sure you use a high quality thread sealer in the pipe end fittings for the filter head. DO NOT use teflon tape.

I think I read somewhere that the cat filter that will fit this filter head is a 4 um filter. Something about Cat not using that filter on their newer equipment. I’m going to look into it more but if that’s the case I’m going with a Donaldson filter when it’s time to change.

I've had the Glacier filter since he came out with it, mine's mounted on the head, I used the yellow teflon tape on my fittings - it's designed for fuels, the white teflon is not.

Filters - of course, it comes with the Fleetguard FF5320, but the CAT 1R-0750 and the Donaldson P551313 will also fit it. The Fleetguard is 92% efficient at 2nm, the CAT is 98.7% efficient at 2nm.

Not to hijack but since we are talking about filters in here...

Does anybody know how the bf1212, fs1212, and fs1000 compare to each other? They will all fit on the same housing. I just need to know the best of the three if anybody knows?

Yep.. you want the 2um filter last in line, or it will plug quite quick. Also you want it where its warm for winter use.

Yes, Cat currently reports the 1R-0750 as 4um, in fact all of the 1R's are reported that way. I have read the other thread and my thoughts on it are this.

NIST and J1985 standards have changed to have 4um be the best rating a J1985 single pass filter can have.. so on that note there are no longer any 2um filters. Many, many companies still use the old NIST and J1985 standards and the ones that make them will report a 2um absolute filter (Donaldson is a good example). Now does that mean the Donaldson is any better than the Cat? Not in my book, using the same test standards they are rated the same.

So what about the new "Ultra High Efficiency" Cat filters? Until I see some Cat literature on them I can't comment, but based on the most popular standards they can only be 4um as well....

But I will continue to report my filters as 2um, as its still the current "goal" and accepted best filter rating, even thou I know that on today's standards they are 4um filters.

Bottom line is that's some **** clean fuel.

Haha.. its easy, anyone can do it.

Richard at GDP has the template for the mount, and could probably sell you a full kit.
