I was wondering if there is a way to install a 12V intoa 99-2006 model dodge and have all cruise control and stuff work properly. Will the newer computer handle the old engine? or will the old pcm be used? If the old pcm is used will the new truck speedo and cruise, etc work? Just wondered. I love my 12V but my 95 is getting a little worn down inside and out.I wanted to find a wrecked newer style body(maybe even a gas truck) and convert.

I am fairlly new to the dodge sceen ... I am a long time wench and custom car and truck builder ... If you buy a wreck that your adding more work to your plate...I don't if this is going to be a long term project or some thing you just want to blow out in a few weeks .

I think the electricial will be the big issue ... I personal love doing electrical ... If your doing a stick and not an auto I think the job will be a little more easyer .
Keep in mind that if you do a newer truck all the airbag and ABS derive alot of the info from throttle position ... but if you don't mind striping all that crap out ... use your trans and harness you should be just fine .

That should be a pretty easy project ... You can put that motor just about any truck ...

Yes but changing a fender and hood or whatever is easy, also a slightly bent frame can be fixed properly. I was just wanting the ideal truck. I dependable lasting 12 valve in a modern interior and body style. I just want the speedo and cruise to work without a headache.

This is a fairly major swap but doable.
The old PCM would have to be used and I believe the old tranny (not too sure on that). The ISB has way more computer intervention than the 12V so the PCM from the newer would be looking for info from sensors not present. The Cruise system would probabily also have to be the older one being the PCM has control of it (again not completely sure of the differences in that)
Electrical will be the biggest issue because the overhead console is tied to the PCM hence it won't work and some connectors will be different (may have to swap the master wiring harness)

Hate to say it, but it's almost the equivelant of putting an LS1 into a Mustang, both have some common roots but are very distant in the operations and required systems.

Lenny at Dynomite Diesel in Monroe, WA has a newer truck with a 12v engine. Not sure if he's on here, but he is on nwbombers.com's forums.

I think the easiest thing to do would be to leave the original PCM in the newer truck and just make it think that the original motor is still in there so that cruise, etc.. works.

So you would basically need the TPS and VSS still feeding inputs to the PCM. A few other things like temperatures and oil pressure would be all that would be needed. I don't think its as big a project as every body is making it seem.

Well I am sure I could rig up a mount for the new tps to be installed on my injector pump. And the vss would not be changed as I would use the trans that is in the newer truck.Anyone know of and other sensors I would need to somehow install on my engine? And I guess I could use the turbo from the newer truck also??? Or would that be somehow computer operated with the fuel injection unit?
