Installed the GDP 392 kit...HAPPY!!

Well after a lot more work than I thought, the system is on, and is awesome. Mostly the Pushlok fittings were a bear. It was pretty cold anyway, I had to really hit them with a heat gun to get the hose on.

Before: I was at 13psi idle, 10 cruising and didn't use 5x5 on the comp because it dropped close to 5-7psi.

After: 21psi idle and 16psi WOT with the Comp on 5x5.

What a difference. I swear I can feel it. One more happy customer.

You could also spend $100 more and run a 392 with filters =P

Well, so much for being able to "feel" the difference, I slipped the clutch. Cruising mid third gear, gave it a good push, accels like mad, then RPM shot up but truck slowed, I let off some and it caught again. How much HP/TQ are needed to slip the stock clutch? I was hoping I wasn't there yet. I see a new clutch in my future...

It varies. My stocker held out longer than I ever imagine it would. It not only held an EZ and DD2 injectors, but also held a Smarty and M4s for almost a year!

I will probably go with the Valair 550HP rated one, what is the difference in the 12.25 and 13? Obviously the size, but rated at the same capacity, would there be a need for the 13 and conversion kit?

The bigger clutch will hold better, last longer, and damp crankshaft torsional harmonics better.

The smaller unit will shift better and cost less.

I only have experience with South Bend--- can't help you with valair.

Stock 12 1/4" clutch on the 5 speeds or 13" clutch on the 6 speeds? 13" clutch does have more holding power stock vs stock. My friend's 98.5 5 speed clutch slipped bad using his Edge Comp on anything over level 3. He is now running a 13" SBC Con Ofe along with a 6 speed trans. His 5 speed also blew the fifth gear nut off using the Comp.

I hope my fifth gear nut holds... is that something you can remedy with switching to a different tranny?

Yes, but then you will inherit the problems of a NV5600. The 5th gear nut can be fixed one of two different methods. One is to replace it with an aftermarket version before it takes a dump. The other option in to rebuild the 5-speed with an aftermarket output shaft and better designed nut. Do a search and read up before yours blows off.

what problems? other than the occasional pain to get into the reverse... there are good and bad about both, bit with 111k on my nv5600, it's still going strong

I like my 392 it works great. My auto took a dive a day after I installed my 392. It all happens when the weather is cold.
