Today I installed a BD Fuel Low Pressure Warning Light. Now I got myself in a spot where I am sure there is air in fuel line. I need to get it out.

Once I removed the banjo/schrader port in order to intall BD's tapped banjo bolt and sensor, fuel started draining out. Some fuel also drained (dribbled) from the fuel filter drain hose. I assembled everything and then turned on ignition power. The LP come on and then I realized I was probably pushing air into the VP. Worried, I decided not to do anything else until I consulted my Haynes book and the good folks here in the forum.

I've now read about loosening the VP banjo bolt a little and activating the LP to push fuel through the line and air out of it. This is the procedure they say to use when you change a fuel filter. Is this what you all do?

What if I have pushed air into the VP? How do I get it out of there? Do I have to worry about this? I'm a little worried about trying to actually start the engine until I finally do what I was supposed to have done earlier (bleed air out).

Maybe I'm doing it wrong, but when I change the fuel filter on my '01 all I do is quickly tap the starter, what this will do is run the lift pump for about 30 seconds and let the fuel run through the injector pump. Then I turn the key off for about another 30 seconds, to reset, then I tap the starter again, so the lift pump runs again for another 30 seconds. I don't loosen the banjo bolt at all, and the truck starts right up. When you tap the starter, its just a quick tap, don't crank the engine at all. I think what this does is push fuel, and any air bubles, through the injector pump and out to the oveflowvalve and to the return line back to the tank. If after you try this, your truck still does not start, but I'm betting it will, then you have air in the high pressure lines, then you need to crack the injection lines to bleed the air out, but just try the tapping first. Loosen the banjo a bit, bump the starter so the lift pump runs, but the truck doesn't start. Once you see fuel coming out of the fitting, tighten it up. Start the truck. Works well with two people as fuel can spray pretty good.
