View Full Version : Installed Afe Intake, Wow! Turbo Is Loud
IF YOU LIKE THE SOUND OF THE TURBO SCREAM I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE AFE INTAKE. I INSTALLED MINE TODAY AND WAS GREETED WITH THE LOVELY SOUND OF THE TURBO. I HAD THE BHAF,WHICH WAS QUITE LOUD, BUT THE AFE IS MUCH LOUDER. ANYONE INTERESTED IN AN AFE, I GOT MINE FROM RIP ROOK AT WWW.SOURCEAUTOMOTIVE.BIZ , JUST THOUGHT I'D LET YOU ALL KNOW HOW PLEASING IT IS.
I picked one up off of eBay and installed the AFE intake setup as well. I went from stock filter and box to the AFE setup.
and I agree - it is LOUD. Annoyingly so to be honest, but I am getting used to it.
Mine looks different than the pic on the site you linked to - the metal housing was powdercoated, and my filter came with a yellow pre-filter slip cover.
$181 delivered, I was pretty happy.
Installation was easier than anything I have ever done in my life: No joke when I say 20 minutes from upening the hood to closing it!
I have seen no gains so far to speak of - just the noise...

Well...the gain is getting to hear the beautiful sound of that turbo spooling up!!!
I wonder if there is an AFE set up for 1st Gens?
I THINK THE ONE IN THE PICTURE AT RIPS SITE IS THE OLD STYLE FILTER, I COULD BE WRONG THOUGH. MINE LOOKS AS YOU DESCRIBED. YOU WONT SEE ANY PERFORMANCE GAINS UNTIL YOU ADD MORE FUEL WITH A FUELING BOX LIKE AN EZ OR SIMILIAR PRODUCT.
Sorry - no suck "fueling boxes" for the 12v :D
Did see gains from the fueling plate though
