Injector question

My truck has 106,000 miles on it and is running perfectly. Tows fine with lots of power and no smoke unless I am really accelerating hard at altitude, (6,000 - 7,000') and even then there is only a slight haze.

My question is in regard to preventive maintenance. As I am not in the states, if I ever do need injectors in a hurry, it is a pain and a bit expensive to bring in. I know that this is a subjective question, but how long can I expect to go before I have injector trouble? I do run a cleaner thru the system periodically and have just run a tank of Seafoam thru.
I have been wondering if it would be advisable to get a set of injectors and keep them on the shelf for if or when I do run into trouble. Any suggestions on this? I don't need super high performance injectors, but will consider something like a Mach 1 or 1.6. The CP3 has already been replaced and has no mods on it.

If I buy injectors do I have to give the supplier the old ones to overcome a core charge? If I do, then it makes no sense to store new injectors on a shelf as that is very pricey.

Don M, if you are reading this, would appreciate your input.

106,000 on stock injectors is pretty good. 106,000 on stock 03 injectors is FANTASTIC! I would say keep doing what your doing. I ran Flux 2s in my 03 but that's way more then what your looking for. Maybe be a set of Flux 1's.
Good luck,

I would not recommend using Seafoam. It will make any water get imulsified with the fuel and run through the injectors, not good.

267k on my stockers. I do however run Power Service treatment with every tankful. The AD 150 doesn't hurt either. I think with meticulous maintenance (i do an oil change every 3k regardless) your fuel system should last you a good long while....except your LP...do keep one of those on the shelf...or under your drivers seat. Most places will charge you a core charge for your injectors so get ready for that swift kick in the gut. F1 will rebuild your stockers with their tips for a VERY reasonable price but you will have to go through one of their distributors to get it done.

I do run the Power Service thru every 3 or 4 tanks. Also run a pint of Seafoam in a tank full once in a blue moon. (but not together with PS) Oil changes are done on a regular basis.
OK, you have 267K on your injectors, but from what I have read, many people have had a problem on the stockers long before that mileage and I am trying to find a saw off point where I decide to make a change to prevent problems. As I said in my original post, the question is subjective.

My lift pump and filter has been relegated to a back shelf ages ago and no longer use the OE LP and have been replaced with the Airdog FP-100 and 2 micron filter.

Just for the sake of an argument, how does regular oil changes benefit the fuel injection system?

You should have time Mexstan. The 03' truck usually give a warning that come in the form of hardstarts. I would go another 75,000 miles on your injectors before I would worry especially since you have the Airdog setup on it. It's hard not to worry with all the folks that have had issues, but a good many of those were self inflicted.

He also has one more advantage than all of us. He is running LSD and ULSD. Mexico hasn't switched yet.

The regular oil changes do nothing for the fuel system. I was just adding that in there because I am a stickler for maintenance. I service everything possible on my truck for self assurance and the piece of mind knowing that it was done right and I don't have the worry on my mind as if some "so called Dodge Certified Mechanic" claims it's fixed ( I was burned by the same dealership I bought the truck from right after I purchased it.) Not bashing mechanics by any means but like the old addage goes "one bad apple spoils the whole d**n bunch." Anyways, enough of my ranting. I would sleep easy if I were you....your truck should do just fine for many more miles.

OK, guys, thanks for your input. By the sounds of it, I will not worry now. Was looking for an excuse to obtain more power, but guess that will have to wait for a while.

Extra filtering is the absolute BEST thing you can do for injector life. There are hotshotters with +400k and are just now starting to loose solenoids.

If you have clean fuel and good filtering the solenoids are going to be the weak spot and with the 2 events they will go longer than the 3 event engines.

Having a spare for emergencies is not a bad idea. On the 600 series engines 120-150k with OE filtering one is going to want to start looking at checks. While they could go at any time, you should be good till 250-300k before you have to worry much.
