For 3rd gens the best thing you can do to prolong injector life is filtration down to 2 microns....preferably with back up of another 2 micron and water separation.

Has anyone done a study on injector failures before and after the intoduction of ULSD?
I am not so sure that all common rail injector failures are due to insufficeint filtration but could be lack of sufficeint lubrication. I would just like to know.

i talked to one of the main bosch guys a few years back before ulsd. he said the main problem was filtration due to the high pressure the nozzles are under fuel with crud in will act like a sandblaster and wear the openings out and damage the bodies. thats why gm had a filter system redesign and recall in 04 i believe is when he said they did it

okay guys, and gals, here is something I was told by my injector man, he seems pretty sharp, and a bosch distributor, recently had to rebuild my engine at 170,000 miles, and habve had injector issues for a while, Ithink my quad burns them up in higher setting, but anyway, Icarried my injectors to him to check out, he told me all of my injectors, (some purchased at different intervals over the lat year or so, all at dealerships) were not bosch remans, that cummins had found a place in mexico that does them for cummins, and he has seen lots of problems out of them, and resolved some issues with trucks just by chnaging them out to the properly remaned ones from bosch, he said these were don in jaurez, and just not very good, he showed me how to tell, on th4e bosch remans when you are getting new ones, on the back its all clean smooth and some white numbers stamped on it, on the mexican ones, there will be a small scuff place where the take a little file and scratch it up, over some numbers i beleive, you can tmiss it, if it has the scuff its mexican, and we are being sold these thru cummins, and dealerships, although we are paying the full price for a bosch reman, he says he guesses not enough people have complained to cummins to make it stop, or that people dont know, soo if any one has heard this also, or knows anything about it, Id like to hear, for what iu pay for injectors i expect the proper one, as Im sure we all do, let me know what you heard or think guys, have a great day

Correct me if I am wrong but what I read is that this works on the engine oil side of the injector and one of the frequently asked questions was about cokiing and they said it would not help on the fuel side. So this must be for big trucks with different kind of injectors than we run.
