Injector knock can feel it in fuel line
looking for some injector knock help. i have noticed a slight knock in the first fuel tube going to the first injector in the front of the motor. the motor knocks and has since i got it with 40,000 on it in 07, now has 92,000 i can acctually feel it in the first tube where it goes into the block and no other ones. maybe its because its the only one with out the isolator. anyway i have notice it has gotten a lil louder and the truck runs just a lil rougher at idle. i dont get any smoke really except for maybe a lil black smoke if i floor it from a stop. i also have the cat off the truck. i still get good mileage on trips. now another thing is my warrenty cummins comes with a 5 year 100,000 mile warrenty and dodge comes with a 7 year 70,000 warrenty am i covered i found this in the warranty book and i quote " Tranfer of cummins diesel engine limited warrenty. when you transfer the coverage under your powertrain warranty, coverage to 7 years or 100,000 miles (whichever comes first) under the cummins diesel engine limited warranty is automatically transferred" so am i covered? any advice would be appreciated

If it's covered take it in and get checked out. Injector test will show what % that injector is contributing. Should be equal to the rest of the injectors. Checking the resistance of the injector and the harness which is intergrated into the valve cover gastket. The gastket has been changed because the wiring connections have been coming loose. Inside the valve cover which usually causes that injector to cut out and causes a missfire. Check all the fuel line insulator bolts also. Usually #4 will loosen and cause the fuel line to crack resulting in a fuel leak and a no start. If you happen to be driving truck it usually sprays diesel fuel everywhere and engine will quit running instantly. If it hasn't happen to you yet it will.

I have been working on Cummins engines 23+ years 40+ hours per week. What's your experience Eat Beef? I changed many of these fuel lines and almost every 5.9 CTD I work on the clamp for #4 is loose or the bolt is missing. I usually put some blue loctite on the bolt and tighten it down if found loose. The new fuel line has been changed to thicker wall design, but will still crack if clamp bolts loosen.

Anyone got a source for the updated #4 line? I did the blue loctite on the OE line when I got the truck but a spare is really cheap insurance! Like carrying a spare serp belt and a fuel filter.

Mine is an 05 with 182000 and it has the same issue, I believe it is normal, The number cylinder fuel line has a pulse with the fuel injection cycle. It hasn't given me any problems yet.

bettamsw does yours get louder sometimes it seems when i run a diffrent injector cleaner sometimes it will quiet down. but its pretty loud now i really can't hear it in the cab and like i said it has always done it since like 40,000 and i got 92000 on it now. the other day i was in a parking garage and it sounded bad real bad and thats what got me worried. right after that i took a 300 mile round trip to camp for the weekend and clocked 22 mpg and like i said no lights good oil pressure no leaks and never a change in the oil level. these trucks are great till something goes wrong and it seems you have to give your first born to get them fixed.
