Injector going bad????
How can you tell if your injector is going bad, and if it is bad, how do you determine which one is bad? My truck has a hard time starting in the morning regardless of the temp. once it starts, it blows blue smoke for about 5 min. After driving it to operating temp and shutting it down, it starts right back up without any smoke. If I give it more than 1/2 throttle, it will blow black smoke. It also has oil coming out of the crankcase vent tube. It has clean filters on it, and I just started to run howes through it within the last 30 miles. Any thiughts? this is my first diesel and im getting frustrated.

Rings friend , you may have a bad injector but I can tell you most likely the rings are burnt on 1 or two of the cylinders(most likely 1 and/or 6). The oil out of the crankcase is an indication of blowby(combustion gasses passing the rings). Also blue smoke is an indication of burning oil. Check your oil level, Im betting your engine is consuming oil.

I found a shop in Texas while I was down there dealing with the legalitys of my truck purchase with the same issues your having. And this shop said they have a way to put the old style rings on these engine's and make them a 1 million mile engine again and cure the ring problem of these trucks.

I would be very interested in how they do this.

I just started a thread on this to see what guys thought. If I remember right, the guy called the old style rings "D-rings".
I will talk more with the shop tomm and will keep you guys posted on this. It was something they designed and did in shop.
