injector failure = ring/cylinder failure?

im going back together with a complete rebuild on an 04.5 engine that failed the piston rings in #1 and 6 cylinders, is it known that a failing injector and cause the rings to fail??? i'm thinking most of the cause was bad/no maintnence on a cheap air filter, and it also had a banks 6 gun with no gauges, but i dont wana thro the engine back together if an injector can cause this issue, i have never seen this before.... no one around the area can test the injectors and the owner really wants the truck back and dont wana spend much more $$$, also even with the failed rings, the engine still ran smooth and had no noticeable miss and no CEL.... thoughts???

my 05 did this as well. My friends 07 5/9 just did the same and ive heard of many others. I ran my injectors again and its been 40000k with no issues. Its as though they had a bad piston ring supplier for awhile. Stab thoe injectors back in there. they'll be fine.

What caused your ring failure?

If the truck was not smelling of raw fuel or having uneven running, knocking sounds or smoke issues than the ring failure was not injector related and the injectors are fine. Excess idling can glaze the cylinders and cause excess oil consumption..

What was the problem that warranted the teardown in the first place??? Were the rings broken???

thanks guys that was my thoughts exactly...

excessive blow buy, really bad, the tailgate was soaked in oil, other than that, the only other sign was a strange noise while cranking like it had low compressino on 1 or 2 holes, amazingly enough it ram smooth and perfect, the rings on #6 actually made it up on top or the piston, #1 rings were gone....

The cause of this could probably be narrowed down from more examination and a long line of questioning.

However, for the question at hand: Can the injectors be reused? I would say yes as there was no evidence of a fuel related issue even at the end with the loss of compression and oil pumping. As long as the tips do not appear to be mechanically damaged or have carbon whiskers on them.
