Question Injection line leaking

I bought a 96 12 valve last week. I got it home today and noticed that I had fuel leaking underneath the truck. I popped the hood and found that the injection pump was leaking. Started it again and found that the first injector line is leaking out of where it screws onto the pump. I am hoping it is just loose. If it isn't loose where is the best place to buy lines? Do I have to buy a whole set or can I just buy the one I need.

you can buy just the line you need from cummins or dodge, but before you go buying it make sure that the sealing surface inside the DV holder isnt scratched or scored and the same for the line, also make sure that the DV holder isnt loose which is also possible. Also im not sure where your located but there is a place here in Schoolcraft MI that makes then from bulk material for like $30.

On the injector side of my truck I think all of them leak some, but today I geuss I worked the 'ole 12v too hard and now they leak badly... I am going to take all the injectors out clean the bores, all threads and mating surfaces and put in some gasket maker where it is needed, hopefully that works....

Whoa, no gasket maker that would be bad news and wouldnt work anyway, you need new copper washers on the end of the injector. so everything you want to do is fine but no gasket maker. you just likely got the engine good and warm and now the copper washers expanded and contracted and now is leaking, you might try just a retorque and it might take care of the leak. just a thought to try and save you some trouble, but at the same time new washers are only a few bucks anyway.

Thanks for the input. I am going to try and retorque them to see if that helps. Any other comments would be helpful. I will stay away from gasket maker . Are their copper washers between the DV on the pump and the injector lines, because that is were it is leaking. I talked to the previous owner and he said the line might need adjusted alittle and retighted. If thats the case the line probably need replaced. Right?

I think you will be ok Farmer Davis, it probably just worked itself a little loose. Hopefully you don't have to replace the line but if you do you can usually find them on E-bay for cheap. In my manual it says to lube the threads with 90w gear oil, you may want to try that as well...

Chop342: I have new copper washers, and know if I replaced those with gasket maker it would be a big "no-no". The only part that I would put gasket maker on would be injector hold-down nut where the little o-rings go, most of mine were dryrotted and fell apart when I swapped injectors. I'm hoping doing all the other stuff will get my leak fixed up, come to think of it when I bought the truck they all leaked some. I hope nothing is warped and would cause this..

I think it was just loose. I took the problem line loose (came loose real easy), then retorqued it and it has stopped leaking since. Hope that cures it. Thanks

that is copied from yellowpages.com but i have had a few lines a fittings made there and they rock, cheap and fast and in stock. The best part is that they make them while you wait.
