Need info for replacing VP44
I have a 99 with 58000 miles on it lp went & took VP out Iam taking it apart now I have all the tools included the one to turn the engine over to TDC my ? is do have totaly all the fuel lines or just loosen them the last one is a bear for this old fat man

You can do it and leave the HP lines in place, but it is tough. Best to have a helper.

As long as you have one that is small enough and has a blunt head on it. If I recall correctly the pump shaft does not have an indent in it. Also, be very careful not to continue cranking once the shaft seperates from the gear as it is possible to crack the timing cover when using a t-bar puller as the factory service manual recommends. If you do that you'll be in a world of..... Oh, also place a pencil magnet on the center of the shaft when you start to remove the nut and lock washer by hand. This will ensure that that neither of them fall into the timing cover.

I'll give you a little tip that I have found to work well. If you have a leak at the injector lines in the back of the vp, it is like impossible to fix it. I have gone to installing the lines and tightening the pump side first then the injector side. Tightening the pump side first seems to stop leak possibilities.

got it out yesterda no problems thanks to the help I reciecved here Thanks all I did use my snap on puller but just tighting the bolts in the gear popped right off no problems I did go ahead & remove the fuel lines in 2 sections perfect not as bad as a job as iI thought Now I have to find a replacement VP44 not gonna be pretty
