Okay here's the deal, since I'm adding and changing a bunch of the lighting inside/outside of the rig now i might as well add some extra interior lighting to my truck, basically courtesy lights under the dash (blue neons of course), anyone know of a wire 'in/under the dash' I can use as a trigger for a relay? I'd rather not run yet another wire from the overhead console back down to the dash if i can avoid it. But I want the 'courtesy lights' to come on with the interior overhead lights. Of course adding an override switch to play with too.

One of these days I'm going to have to break down and buy a complete service manual with wiring diagrams and such.

Here's how you do it...

Get a simple Bosch relay at RadioShack or an auto parts store. Don't pay more than a couple three bucks. They're cheap.

Then take apart your headlight switch. Just unscrew it and pull it out of the dash.

Splice a wire into the yellow wire on the headlight switch. Connect this wire to terminal 85 on the relay.

Run a wire from the terminal 86 on the relay down to the big red wire on your ignition harness. That's the Constant 12V wire. Then put a 10 or 15 Amp AGC fuse inline on this wire.

Run another fused wire to Constant 12V from terminal 87.

Then run a wire from terminal 30 to your blue neons or whatever.

You can't get to the wire from the door switch? It should come up into the dash around the parking brake release. My diagram says it should be black, with light blue stripe. It can work, but your switch will be the ground so the lights always have to be hot.

That's the passenger door trigger wire. There's also a driver door trigger wire. Due to the built-in domelight supervision on these trucks, you should use the yellow wire and a relay. Follow the instructions above and below.

85 from yellow on the headlights
86 to fused 12V
87 to fused 12V
30 to neons

Thanks guys.... i have the relay (actually a few of them) their hookup is no trouble, that's the easy part, just wanted an idea of what colored wires i should look for to avoid having to pierce a bunch of them looking for the right one to.

Considered using the door switches but would light things up when the door is open, not quite what i wanted.
