my mechanic told me as of this year it has to have a muffler? true or false ? i kept saying its a diesel and he said yes its illegal on a DIESEL.

Being a turbo diesel you should be fine... Believe it is written in the fine print somewhere that a turbine device is a muffling device...

Of course it is still against federal regs to modify exhaust system period so...

At the federal level, the turbo is considered a muffling device and the state cannot pass a law that contradicts federal law.

If your truck came from the factory with a cat on it, it then must have a cat. There is no restrictions on mufflers thus far in Texas unless 07-08. We do state inspections and so far thats the law from my classes. The turbo is classified as a exhaust restriction so... But the federal deal also applies, as stated above.

Been through this more then once with a judge. Some say it's a noise thing others try to say it is a muffler thing. Registered commercial or not you must have a muffler. One trick to it though, if your pipes go upward its legal. So stacks is the solution.

Yep, every vehicle in Texas must have a muffler. Luckily, Texas defines a turbo as a muffler:

According to federal regulations its also illegal to modify fuel systems, intake systems, and so on. But I don't see any G-men handing out tickets yet.
