Idle RPM on the Dodge is high I think?

What is the RPM supposed to be in PArk or Neutral?
Is 900 to much RPM?
With A/c on and in drive it's 850 and sometimes 800 ish!
What are the numbers supposed to be?
These numbers are right from my dash. What is the other way of getting true RPM readings and how/where on the enigne with a meter?

Thks

Thats where mine has been since the day I bought it, right on the 875 line. Only time its ever lower is on a cold start, but with the espar running for a while. I'll bring the RPMs to 1k to get the EGTs up, let off and it settles to the usual 875.

Yeah I guess it's right. I've been running it straight pipe for a few weeks now and I thought it was way to loud and high in flow RPM's.
I guess my ears also get used to my 6.0 Ford diesel Excursion. Sorry but it's my family car.
I made the dodge straight pipe before installing the 5" exhasut with a Donaldson short 20" resonator.

I've been tempted on not installing the 5" system if it will be too loud. I tow 4/5 days a week and need to be able to talk on cell without engraving the cell phone into my ear at highway speeds.
WIll the 5" be too loud and with a resonator? ANyone know how the down pipe 4" to 5" rest back and resonator be in terms of loudness?

I can't speak for a 5" system, but my 4" straight pipe, talking on a cell phone between 2k and 2200 rpms is near impossible. You get a real good drone at that point. And thats unloaded. Give it some throttle to get the boost up, and the volume goes up. Above or below those RPMs would be ok though.

850-900rpm at idle ,1100 for cold start, up to 1500rpm for high idle settings. You should use high idle and keep the truck in N. if you plan prolonged idle.

Look on the engine number plate on the left side of the timing gear cover. It will state what the idle RPM should be. Remember, the tachs in our trucks are not super-accurate.

I put back the stock exhaust last night and the truck is quiet again. The idle stabalized too. Its right wher eit need to be and I can talk on the phone also! Now I'm contemplating whether to run the 5" EXHASUT SYSTEM I have new with the donaldson resonator. I just can't have drone and I need to be able to talk on cell phone especially if towing.

And Yeah the tachs on the dodges are not super accurate.

~How can I get a fast idle of 1200-1500 while I leave the truck on for a prolonged amount of time???

There are high idle boxes out there; you can probably get them at most any diesel shop. I never did much checking into it, but I think they run about $170.00-$400.00. For a much less expensive alternative, if you're able and willing to get into a project involving work with electronics, here's some (read: a LOT of) interesting reading:

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...d.php?t=123156

That's where I got ideas to base the high idler in my signature on. All told I spent less than $100.00 to build it, including the plugs to connect it to the APPS and factory harness so I didn't have to do any cutting or splicing on the factory wiring. If you need more info I'll try to dig it up for you.
