I have 2002 Ram 5.9 24V, how can i tell what transmission i have 48, 47, re? Maybe you could explain to me what those numbers mean. Tell me what you need to know or see to tell.

Your truck has a 47RE. The 48 came out a year later.
4=4 speeds
7=700 ft lbs torque
R= rear wheel drive
E= electronic
the stock trans needs more pressure, so a valve body is a good idea
As stock, especially if you add power, it needs a tighter fluid coupling converter.

Thanks J-Fox for useful info. I just purchased the truck a month ago and have not put many miles on it yet but i did replace oil and transmission fluid with filter. From start, when i picked it up this was first time for me to drive diesel and it seems to sluggish and slow at take off. later on it would get stock in first gear without shifting, from alll the info i found here i am replacing governor solenoid with new fluid again (this time i am installing drain plug :-) i also noticed that here is not many pictures of parts and places where what is located so i will try to take some when i do mine.\

Valve body? shoud i replace it now or later. what is fluid coupling converter.

I suggest replacing the Transducer when you do the Governor Solenoid. AND, Save the receipts. Seems like the newest soleniods have been failing a lot faster than the factory originals. Dodge Dealers (mine at least) says there is a 1 yr warranty on parts.
The Soleniod and Transducer are both located on the passenger side....front ....bottom of the valve body and are an easy job to change. Need set of torx. Just messy unless you let the valve body drain for a long time. Change the filter also!!

My factory Soleniod lasted 150,000 miles. The second one just started acting up (reluctant to shift from 2nd to 3rd) after 10,000 miles.

When and what upgrades to do depends on your best guess ....plus 100% .... at what hp your eventually want (most of us are well past our original goal). Your factory tranny can only handle about 60 added HP.... so be careful. Add a Smarty and play till it starts slipping... or you want more power.

I will save the receipt. I purchased my solenoid at advanced but they said there is nothing like transducer? but i will definetly look in to it

there are 2 sensor onto the bottom of the valve body: PRESSURE SENSOR(or pressure solenoid) and GOVERNOR SOLENOID(also called governor transducer)
here is a VB bottom photo, the sensor on the left is the Governor Pressure Sensor(w red black green wires) and the right one is the governor solenoid or transducer.


The other is the Torque Converter and Lock Up Solenoids, the big rectangular one behind the 2 previous sensors w mostly tan wires.

Can't see yoiur pics real clearly but just to keep things from getting confused.....
Soleniod and the Tranducer are not the same thing.

thank you for your replies Pictures really help. i ended up returning the solenoid i purchased (torque lockup and O/D) now i am ordering Governor Pressure Sensor and Solenoid from trans.partsusa.
By the way now i will not have to spill any oil i installed drain plug.

Is it still not shifting out of 1st? Are your BRAKE and ABS lights on by any chance?

brake and ABS stay on for a 2-3 seconds after start but then they turn off. waiting for order to come in with parts, but it started to shift out of first gear and i do not start in second anymore. Firts gear is sometimes sticky, i have to rev it up high then let the gas go before it shifts.
