Hypertech Max Energy Experiences

FYI All, I know there are very few posts on the new Hypertech Max Energy programmer on this website so I decided to try it since they give you a 30 day money back guarantee (which they did honor!). My truck is a bone stock 04.5 Quad Cab 2wd dually with 6speed with Autometer Phantom boost and EGT gauges. Here is what I observed with the programmer:

Stock - great power, Max EGT of around 1,350EGT, max boost of about 34-35psi (almost touches needle stop) Averages around 16.5-17mpg running empty at 70mph

Hypertech 1st setting - poor throttle response and truck felt like it had less power than stock program. EGT's would hit 1,500+ and boost would peg out my gauge at 35psi when I floored it to pass a car. Over a 400 mile trip running 70mph I averaged 15.6mpg

Hypertech 2nd setting - great power and throttle response, EGT's would climb to over 1,200 during normal acceleration through the gears, would peg out my pyrometer at 1,600F and peg out 35psi boost gauge with no load when flooring it. I pulled an empty 4k lb trailer and on any type of small hill or grade the EGT's would climb to over 1,400F. Over a 600 mile trip running empty at 70mph I averaged 16.5mpg

Hypertech 3rd setting - I was afraid to try this setting for fear of cooking my engine!

I contacted Hypertech and discussed the very high EGT readings I was getting. They said I should not see any higher than 1,350F. They asked for lots of info off of the programmer (s/n and such) and had me hook it to my computer and check the software version, which was the latest version, as well as what my stock flash file was (the programmer recorded the part number when it was programmed back to stock). After 2 days of phone calls back and forth they finally instructed me to return it to Summit Racing for a refund and they contacted Summit with the serial number so they could get it back and furthur inspect it.

I am sure this is probably not typical of a Hypertech product, but if any of yall are considering buying one of these and trying it for the fuel mileage increases they claim then buyer beware.....

Does anyone have a suggestion for another all around daily driving and heavy towing programmer that doesn't require a bunch of supporting mods to keep the EGT's cool???

Thanks,

Bowedup

I don't have gauges (still under warranty), but I have been happy with the Hypertech. I'm happy to hear they looked after you and seem to care about your experience. Product support is important.

thanks for posting your findings. weird about the high egt's 'cause Hypertech claims that you can safely tow on any level..... oh well, another product that didn't live up to the advertising.

FYI All, about 3 weeks after my removing the Hypertech Max Energy programmer from my truck I started having intermittent problems with the APPS sensor, after extensive troubleshooting the dealership ended up replacing the ECM under emission warranty and problems solved.

So now the big question is: Did the Hypertech programmer cause the ECM to go out or was the ECM going out and that is why I got the odd performance and extremely high egt's while using the programmer?
