HX40 turbo up-grade...?????

I found a great deal on a brand new hx40 with a 60mm inducer and 86mm exducer. Can anyone tell me what size exhuast housing comes on this turbo. I tow a lot and figure I have around 350hp and would like to go 400hp. Right now my truck runs a little to hot for comfort. I am hoping to add this turbo and run a little cooler. My final hp will depend on how hot my egts are going to run. More fuel means higher temps.

My questions are:
-turbine combo good for what I am looking for. Is it the same as all hx40s
-will the spool up be too slow
-is this 16cm exhaust housing

Price is less than $900 and he has one left. Is that as good as it sounds?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if its a off the shelf 40, they have small shafts, spend a couple hundred more and get a "phat shaft" type 40, they regular 40's are weaker than a phat shaft.

This particular turbo has an 18 cm exhaust housing and is wastegated at 40psi. Is this the turbo that I want or should I just purchase the 16cm hx40.

THanks, By the way brand new turbo is less than $800. That is the main reason that I am considering this particular turbo.

Thanks,

Don't confuse Holset turbos with the S300-based units.

The 40s can be made to last if you are gentle with them, but they won't tolerate abuse like the S300-based turbos will.

There's no such thing as a "phat shaft" HX40. There are Phat Shaft (S300-based) turbos, and there are Holset turbos.

$900 isn't really that great of a deal to go with an HX40. The HX40s have 16 or 18 housings and can be somewhat laggy.

If towing is what you want, I'd look elsewhere for a turbo upgrade. Great towing performance comes with a nice-open hot side the spools a hair slower.

Think of a turbo like the Htt 62/71 with the SS 16 housing as the perfect towing turbo.
