I know this isn't a political topic but I was just wondering if any of you have any property in the sights of IKE???
I have 2 very modest small homes on the Bolivar Peninsula which is just to the north east of Galveston. Unlike Gaveston we have no seawall and are only a couple of feet above sea level. The water at noon today was 3-5 feet over the peninsula. If the predicted 20' surge and 15-30' waves come true I'll only have an empty lot left by then.
Good luck to any of you with property in the path, hopefully you're not trying to ride it out!!

I gotto ask this. Here in the keys we all live close to the water we build our houses on STilts to avoid flooding. Do any of you do this out there ?? And all new construction is required to buiuld above a certian elevation.. (not saying it would help in a 20 foot wave) But i was just wondering.
Our prayers are wih you gys out there

There are some older house not elevated but most are. Mine is.
All new construction must be that elevated. I'm not sure what the required is but I believe my homes are around 10' maybe 12.
Thanks for the prayer...we've been praying (probably in vane) all day.

I'll help you make it political, your not hollering "wheres my FEMA check yet"?[laugh]
I'm riding it out on the dirty side, it's starting to get loud around here now, power still hanging in there for now.
Sorry about your houses I don't hold much hope for anything on the peninsula, they say there are about 12 homes on fire in Galv. they can't get to. It's gonna be bad.

Now see that is the difference between you and I and some people from previous storms, We'll laugh it off, lick our wounds, pick up the pieces, and give a care whether FEMA sends our check or not![laugh][laugh]

Yea we had some damage from Rita 3 yrs ago. Never saw my FEMA check then either. Of course I never asked for it either.
The sad part for us is that Bolivar peninsula is the bas**rd of Galveston county. we only get the scraps from Galveston city.

Well I hope everything is okay with you guys down there. Looks like it is pretty bad. We were in Galveston back in the spring for a cruise and it seemed like a pretty nice little town. I remember standing on the seawall and now thinking back... a 20' surge would be pretty rough. Now the bad thing is, it's coming straight toward us.
I still can't imagine the stupidity of people wanting to "ride out the storm". [dummy] It doesn't just affect the person that stays. It also affects all the rescuers that have to go in and get their dumb %$# out of a situation that shouldn't have happened in the fist place.
I hope your property made it through with little damage (none preferably).

What I need right now more than anything is info. FOX, NBC, MSNBC, TWC, were all talking about Surfside and Freeport which was down on the cleanest side of the storm. Hardly any mention of Port Bolivar or Crystal Beach.
They did show footage of the Coast Guard rescuing a woman who was stranded on 87 somewhere along the Peninsula yesterday. The water looked to be about 4' deep. That was before noon yesterday.

Still no word!!!
I finally got tired of waiting and sent about 200 emails to ike@foxnews.com and ureport@foxnews.com
Asking them to get us some kind of info.
I'm checking the Houston stations for email addresses as well.

Capt. Ron -
I've been off line 'till now, don't know what you may know right now but Boliver is a waste land. I've seen some video from the Island and it looks horrible. I haven't watched enough news to understand why yet but they won't let the media get pictures of the west end of Galveston. Wonder what's up with that? Hope you get the info you need soon.
After I posted this I realized you can go to "click 2 Houston" (google it), they have a slide show of Boliver.

If you can get TXCN TV, (ch 230 on my TWC) they have continuous coverage from down there. They have been showing the Crystal Beach area. So sad........... I know those poor people feel so helpless.

Yea I've seen some video footage of Bolivar from KHOU. They did a great job of showing the gulf side of the town of Port Bolivar and most all of Crystal beach. My place is on the bay side of Port Bolvar they panned across it real quick and zoomed way out!! After stopping and starting the video a dozen times going frame by frame I think I might be able to see a rooftop where my places should be. At the end of the video they are back in my area and just as they are about to show my place they pan over to the intercoastal and zoom in on a shrimp boat traveling up the canal.
A SHRIMP BOAT????? REALLY???
As soon as I started blowing my top the wife went to bed.[redface]
I feel for her...she has to deal with not knowing and deal with me going nuts with an inanimate object.
They showed tons of footage of the west end of Galveston Island yesterday. They had a nice long close up flyover yesterday as well as reporters on the ground there.
Ok I'm going to bed. 4 hrs over scanning single frames of video has done me in.[verymad]
