I went to swap out a rotor and realized my giant hub socket for my '77 Macho Power Wagon won't work on this axle.
What socket do I need, and who has it?

Umm, . . . . don't tell anybody but I didn't have a socket either.

Take a large flat-blade screwdriver and position it so that when you rotate the rotor, you can wedge (twist) the blade between the hub's inner diameter and one end of a flat on the nut. (The tiny sides)

The weight/inertia of the rotating assembly will push the nut on around.

It works. ;)

You gotta go rent the kit from the auto prts joint or buy it out right. Its about 60 bucks and will do every 4x4 front hub known to man. And the same old 2-9/16 socket works on the back.

I just had the same problem, I went to every dang parts store in this town and all they had were the dana 44 ones. Ive got piles of those but not the ones for the 60. A buddy of mine has a spare 70 laying around, Im thinking of robbing the teflon nuts out of it and replacing the stock spindle nuts in the front. Heres the one you need though.....

I got the sockets I needed from NAPA. Had to order the one for the rears, but it came the next morning. I don't remember the size, maybe 1 - 9/16" ?
