HTB2 turbo on my otherwise kind of stock truck...

This is the same turbo that I ran on my 03 SO when it made 500hp. It was nice and spooled better than the stocker for sure but it didn't feel that much different in normal driving conditions. On this new truck, however, I swear it feels like I have added a fueling box to it!! It's awesome and I don't have my guages on yet but it's definitely making more boost than it ever did on the 03!! It screams now!! I sure am glad I kept it! Thanks again Timinva...

They are on the workbench. I don't think I'm putting them back on the truck. I've got to think about it for a couple days. I really don't feel like pulling them off anytime the truck has to go to the dealership. The MP-8 comes off easily but the TST takes a little more work.....

Is the HTB2 a 62/14 or 62/12?

The TST takes only about 15-20 minutes once you get the hang of it (it took me maybe 20 times R&R before I got doen to that...but heck) !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Theres no way I could live without the tst. The top end it provides is second to none.

Leave me alone you guys!! I'm trying to talk myself out of it!!! Actually I was thinking about at least putting the TST back on without the MP-8, just to see what the truck feels like now with the turbo. I know the truck ran like crap when I was having the wastegate issue.

OK, You talked me into it! I'll put it back on as soon as it stops raining. I need some guages anyways.....

Pullin em off to go to the dealer?

What about that turbo?

You might as well get you a con fe, a walbro pump and a smarty and be done with it.

You know that you are going to mod this truck just like the last one. Quit kidding yourself.

Ya right!

Ok, how does this happen twice? When you get your first diesel, most are trying to wait till the warranty goes out. I tried, like most, and failed! Now there is no way you, or any of us could ever go back to a stock truck for 32 thousand miles or more to not void the warranty! I couldnt roll out of the parking lot of the dealer without putting a chip in on my next truck!

Why stop with the TST, really? If I had both of them chilin on my bench, and didnt have to spend funds on new ones. No question they would be rushed on the truck! Thats just that much closer/faster you can get your tuck fully bombed. Thats a set of injectors, and on to bigger and better things!

duh....

The turbo install is actually pretty easy except for the two back nuts where it bolts to the exhaust manifold. Then there's the new style oil drain tube that was a pain in the rear to put back into the block. I'm not sure what year they went to that tube. Your new turbo should have come with a Boost fooler plug. Make sure you use it!! The TST is pretty easy but the directions make it seem difficult.
BTW, the TST and MP-8 are still on the bench.........

I hear what you guys are saying but I rarely used the 500hp on the old 03 SO. I just don't know if I want to mess with it again. The turbo will help when I hook the trailer up which is rare. This truck makes the same or more power right now than my old SO did with the EZ set on level 5!!! It's SWEEETTT!!! It's really all I need! BBBBUUUUTTTTT that extra power is nice when you need it.

BTW, both boxes were on the truck the 2nd day I had it. I pulled them off when I thought I was going to have to get it towed to the dealer after my turbo install issues....

Thanks. I do actually feel better now. So this -can- be done alone??? I offered the top tech. at Cummins Power min. $50.00/hour cash to only assist me and he delclined! He was worried about being connected to performance mods. What a **** @**. Makes me even want to go bigger........

I believe mine has a simpler version of the oil drain. I think??

I assume some uninversals and long extensions are employed for this install?

Anything else?

Like Lucas said, I can't live without the TST. The top-end is pure and good. The MP-8 is also good for spool. I regret selling mine.

You will need some metric wrenches and just be prepared that the rear two bolts I mentioned earlier are a pain to get to. No way to put a socket on them. Another problem I had, and also had on my 03, was that for some reason my wastegate was hitting the motor mount and I couldn't put it on without loosening all the exhaust manifold bolts to lift it up some and get enough clearance to get the turbo up on the studs. You will probably have to pull the exhaust back an inch or two because the exhaust housing on the aftermarket turbo is a little longer than stock. I put a ratcheting motorcycle strap on the tailpipe hanger and bumper and cranked down on it til the pipe had come back about an inch and it was fine. Definitely make sure you bolt the oil drain up to the turbo before installing it. There's no way to do it once it's in the truck...
When you look at the turbo you will see that there's really not much to the install. It's really all about low clearances. One more thing, I bruised the heck out of my right elbow while I was fighting to get this thing in because I was too lazy to pull the airbox base out and my elbow kept rubbing and bumping against the corner of the box. Do yourself a favor and do it!!!
I watched, and kind of helped, Timinva put a turbo in my 03 twice but this was my first install alone and it wasn't that bad except for the boost fooler issue...
