I would have to disagree with dodgezilla to a degree. I had a con fe it was not very good I killed one in 6 months with no pulls and only 2 4wd boosted launches. No granted I towed a lot with it. The reason I say this is a friend of mine had same truck with similar mods and we did are clutches around the same time and he beat the heck out of it and it is still going strong a year later, he had the ofe. In my personal opinion the ofe is way underated and is a awesome clutch.

a single disc(whether you agree with me or not ) is not designed for boosted launches.
the fe, due to materials, will hold more power than a ofe.
fe=iron material on both sides
ofe= iron on 1 side, organic on the other.

you want to sled pull, do boosted launches get a twin disc.
singles are for towing and gentle driving.

Did you sledpull on a ofe with over 500hp?
I understand about the material but you know as well as I do the ofe is a very strong clutch And I have seen nothing but great things on them .
the fe on the other hand I have heard a few bad things about. The fe Is very grabby and jumpy The ofe is not, Its very driveable If it were me I would get a ofe or go to the big dd. If I would have sled pulled with that fe it would have been smoked and I mean white smoke. i am very very happy with my 3850 i can do what ever I want to it and it stays reliable and very easy to drive my .02

What is the down side to a twin disk clutch? I notice you said a single is for towing, can you not tow with a twin disk clutch? Thanks

Reason i ask is because i am fixing to look into getting a new clutch in my truck so I'm trying to figure out my options... I would like to do boosted launches every now and again but not on a daily routine, although when i do want to do a boosted launch I want a clutch that will hold up every time. On the other hand i tow all the time and the truck is my daily driver so i don't want a jerky grabby clutch thats not smooth. I want a stock driveablility feel with heavy duty durability, able to take whatever i throw at it from towing 20,000 pounds allday every day to the occasional boosted launches on Friday nights. . . What do i need?? Thanks! - Caleb

the dual disc is just fine for towing. the issue is price. if you are going to run mild mods, no pulling or racing, the ofe is perfect. is money isnt an option, go with the big dog and never worry again.

yes i did sled pull with my ofe, 1 time. smarty on 9, quad on 2. once was enough, didnt want to prematurely kill my clutch.

I just installed a south bend 3600 sprung hub dual disk and I have to
say that it is smother than I though it would be. I have not towed
with it yet, but am sure it will be great. It is alot lowder with out the
duel mass flywheel, does anyone know if there is something that can
quiet it down some? south bend customer service is top notch

Johndeere I just replaced my stock clutch with a south bend dual disk 3250. I called southbend told them how I use my truck, and what other plans I had for the future and that is what they recomended. I don't tow heavy often but can be 20-25,000 # on occaisons, and I wanted to add maybe another 100 hp someday and not worry about the clutch. South bend said this clutch would handle heavy hauling or up to 600 hp(I assume measured at the flywheel). I haven't hooked a trailer to it yet.

You have to make sacrifices if you want it to hold everything. I will also say After eight 4th gear pulls I had to get the 3850 dd Rebuilt. There is no invincible clutch trust me!!!! I've had three differnt clutch set ups and the one I have know is by far the best. Sprung hub is as quiet as doubles get. The solid is very loud
