HP Question

I have heard all over the place that you can get a rough idea as to how much HP by the amount of boost. I have heard that you can figure 10 to 11 hp per pound of boost. If that is true, I should be at about 340 to 375 HP since I can get 34 psi boost. A #8 plate is supposed to be about 230 HP. Can somebody clarify this for me?? I just don't understand............
??? ??? ???

Re:HP Question

I think a better equation for hp would be 10 AVAILABLE hp per pound of boost. Meaning if you're building 30lbs boost, you could provide for 300hp. I am building 30lb, but with bad timing and 230,000mi on stock injectors I'm no where close to 300hp, more like about 250hp.

Re:HP Question

The figure will vary from engine to engine, first of all. (I have no idea if 10 hp/lb boost is accurate on the B-motor) Second, it's more like this: Example: My stock engine makes 200 hp with 10 lbs of boost. If I go to 20 lbs boost, how much power do I gain? 10 more lbs @ 10 hp/lb = 100 extra hp.
200 stock + 100 extra = 300 hp after the extra boost.
