I see 210 pulling at sea level if it is hot outsude. My truck will run dead on 200 empty in hot temps around town, or just below at the 195 level. I just added some Royal Purple " Purple Ice" to my system.. I guess it cools things down quite a bit. From the little I have towed since adding it, it does cool down much FASTER than before but temp still gets to 210 when it's hot..

I've seen 1300 (for short periods) pulling that much up fairly steep grades. 215 pulling in 95 degree weather (sitting in trafic)

My EGT stayed around 12-1250 ,but my coolant temps jumped to217 degrees,50 m.p.h. 8 % grade, truck did not seem to be pulling hard, had the tow loc on,runs 190-195 around town, dealer said 240 no problem ,will be pulling some 10 mile steep grades this week,so a bit concerned.
thx alboy

I've got my 04.5 up around 1500 and it is completely stock except for the guages and muff delete. It only gets that high when i let it bog down to around 1600 rpms WOT, it usually stays at around 11-1200 if i keep the revs up above 2000rpms. I dont think the auto trannies will let you bog them that hard WOT so there's probably not much too worry about...except your auto tranny!!!!!hhahaha

Pulling at 500ft above see level 12K# 95deg out sits at 200.

Sea level pulling same load on the hills goes to 210 and holds there pretty consistently up the hills.

dodgezilla04, probably 1000-1500 ft when it occured, held around 195 on the flats into a pretty good headwind at 65 mph, wondering if the fan is not kicking in properly.

Pulling my fifth wheel at about 13500 pounds from Durango to Silverton this month I estimated the temp on the factory gauge at the top to be 217 to 220. The altitude is 10,640 feet. 2500 rpm and 45 mph. The high idle kicked in for about one minute while cooling down at the top. On a side note a 40 foot motorhome with a 600 hp diesel decal pulled in next me to while sitting at the top and IMMEDIATELY shut down the engine. Should make for a long turbo life.

check the wiring going to your fan clutch, it has been known to come loose and have the fan sever it.
but, at freeway speeds, the velocity from 60 mph should be enough to maintain coolant temp.

i hit 215* on a 7% grade from 3000-6300' last month in montana. pulling 10k, smarty on 2, running 40 psi @ 1300*. so i wouldnt worry too much.

DZ2, do you think your turbo makes a big difference in egts compared to the stock one towing up steep grades?

oh yeah it does. 2 years ago i made the same trip to montana pulling the same trailer with the stock turbo and quad race. i could not pull big grades above 40mph because of egt's. that's with different settings on the quad, even off.
now i pulled with the smarty on 2, quad on 60, and the other mods, and maintained over 60 without going above 1300*. those are at altitudes above 3k'

i live at sea level, and i cannot get over 1200* pulling. this is a very good towing turbo that makes plenty of power on the dyno and street manners are great.
