Honda's first diesel offering due soon.
Quote from today's edition of Autotech Daily:
................
This year’s "Engine of the Year," as selected by a panel of 50 journalists from 22 countries, will be announced during the 2003 Engine Expo in Stuttgart. Entrants in a variety of displacement categories are judged on powertrain refinement, performance, technology, fuel economy and driveability. Although not eligible for this year’s competition, Honda’s new CTDi 2.2-liter diesel is expected to garner a lot of the attention at the show. The engine, Honda’s first home-grown compression-ignition system will bow in the European version of the Accord this fall and is expected to be a key component in Honda’s drive to increase sales in the market from about 190,000 this year to an annual rate of 340,000 units by 2005. Currently, Honda sources its lone 2.7-liter diesel engine from Isuzu. The new oil-burner features four valves per cylinder and Bosch’s second-generation common rail injection system. It makes 140 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque.
