Homemade Meth Kit Help

Been searching around for a while at some of the posts on homemade kits and have what i think is all the info...minus one piece.

All the posts i see use a Hobbs pressure switch, so it sprays at said boost.
I am more interested in having it activate based on EGTs(maybe being able to switch back and forth from boost to EGT would be better), but im at a loss. What do you use for a temp based switch that can handle the extreme heat.

Im sure its staring me in the face but i cant see it.

Thanks in advance

I'm not an electronics wizard, but I'm gonna take a stab at it. The EGT probe works off resistance. If you had a "trigger" that was set for a certain resistance, it would work. If not, go with a Snow stage 2 that has that all done for you. Also the Striker kit. I know you want it homemade, but that sometimes becomes the hard route.

well isspro must have found a way because they have that "turbo timer" that works off egt's ... shuts the truck off when the egt's get down to a set #.

If I knew what kind of thermocouple it was (j or k) I could get the calibration chart from work and tell you what the resitence is at what tempture. That might be a start.

Thermocouples do not work on resistance, they output a millivolt signal based on the temperature of the junction. How Thermocouples work

What you need is an amplifier to amplify the small millivolt signal to 12 volts so that you have enough current to energize a relay.

There are products that can do this:
This is a panel meter that displays temperature. You can plug a relay into it that will trip when a preset is reached.

This is a temperature controller that will also close a relay contact when the temperature is reached.

What your looking at is a simple Hobbs (pressure) activated system. That seems to be the norm...and the much cheaper way of doing it. It seems like it works extreemly well for a power mod. Obviously im looking for more power but i also tow 10-24k on a weekly basis. My truck does fine EGT wise with the current setup but i can hit 1400-1500 without a problem empty, let alone pulling.

The problem i see with a bigger turbo is with the amount of lag can cause extreeme EGTs at a very low boost where a hobbs activated system may fall short.

The goal is to allow for a two stage setup. One stage run off of boost pressure (most likely 15psi), the other stage run over "X" EGT.

Maybe im looking at it the wrong way

Well if you figure somthing out let me know because I will definetly need some sort of Meth injection on my truck because lag will be a bit of a problem for me if I end up with either of the two turbo's I am looking at!
