Is anybody making their own diesel? What method are you using? any bad effects on O rings? This fuel price sucks big time. Looking for other fuel sources.

me and two buddies went in together on a processor last year.(http://www.murphysmachines.com/) we currently get our oil from 8-12 different restaurants-(becoming cut throat around here- lots of guys trying to move in on other peoples wvo sources!) all three run our trucks on it- and two of us are also heating are homes with it! with the associated costs (ingredients, mileage to get the wvo, etc) it is costing us around 1.45-1.55 a gal to make-luckily at the moment i can get the methanol at cost through a another buddy of mine. so far so good!

Anybody using the fuel miester? at these fuel prices it won't take long to pay for one of these things if the home brew doesn't hurt the fuel systems. I have a good friend that works at a grease plant. I think we could get plenty of oil from there plus nobody around here is doing anything like this yet. He and his wife both have diesel trucks as daily drivers so split that way we could really save on fuel.

Do tons of reading before proceeding. Get your titration procedures down to a science and get familiar with the 3/27 test and you should be ok. I run all my fuel through a racor water separator and a 2 micron filter before it goes into my tank. There it gets the same treatment again. Read some of this http://journeytoforever.org/biodiesel_make.html

I have just a basic set-up now but I am working on a appleseed for down in the basement. Nosy neighbors have been asking questions and thats all I need to get busted for some township ordinance. Here are some pics of a appleseed.

I looked into it - got a book/manual from a link in the DTR biodiesel threads - pretty labor intensive to produce. Book shows how to make a Biostill out of a waterheater - but you got to titrate it and seperate the glycern/soap, water wash it etc.
To much crap for me - and the still site has got to smell like old chicken or chinese...

Maybe there is a better way - but I'll just buy diesel as long as I can afford it.

I just hate that getting Edit feeling at the pump at every fill up. We are gonna be staying really close to home this summer.

like i said in another post. I poured straight oil into the tanks of the tractors.

the p series pump and bigger injectors could take up to 50-75% straight oil. rpms came up about 100 rpm pulling the plow, little more smoke, little more cranks to start. but for a summer time only engine burning 6-7 gallons an hour. every bit helps. you put 20 gallons of free fuel into an 80 gallon fuel tank and now it doesnt hurt to fuel up. I am going to make a filter/pump setup to start burning engine and hydralic oil.

Go to the following link or search www.northerntool.com, they sell a Machine to do what you want to do. Fill it, push a button, and wait.

appydriver , I do not remember when the common rail started , but thats an issue [ polymerization of bio , by high pressure ] , being that yours is a 03 .
That fuel system is more sensitive to bio / water / ect , requires more filtering for more than 5% , Cummins says not more than 20% with added filtering .
gotspeed , remember there is no free , last summer / fall you could make it for about $1.00 - 1.25 gal [ this is not counting getting oil , equipment , gas & electric to run processor ] just the 2 chemicals needed to process , they have gone up a lot , depending , from $1.75 gal to over 8.00 gal for methanol .
So not only is it not free but it is costing more than #2 at the pump for many , even some of the commercial processors have quit , waiting to see if prices will come back , allowing them to make again .

The Bio Pro seems to be the most popular turn key processor going write now .
If I had more money than time , and wanted to get started with out of the box machine that may be my choice .
