holley lift pump, tell me everything i need to know.

i checked my fuel pressure today, its 10psi at idle and 5 psi at WOT (thats sittin in my driveway not goin down the road). so i need to replace my lift pump asap. with the prices of fuel i need something fairly cheap but i want something that is good also. i dont plan on doing any mods so i was looking at the holley replacement. i have heard that it was the way to go for these trucks. i have no idea how to hook it up or even if i have the lift pump in the tank or on the motor. so im pretty much a dummy when it comes to this. if anyone is up for teaching a dummy how to do this i am all ears, or if there is a better replacement let me know. i really appreciate all our help!
Thanks,
Joe

The Holley pumps are good for a low budget fix as a temporary solution. I say this because they are made for gasoline & diesel seems to make the seals leak after a short time. If money is available, I would get a Airdog 100 or 150 system. The Airdog comes with everything to install & instructions in detail. It will run you about $480 for the Airdog. The Holley system is around $175. after pump, wiring, hoses, clamps, relay.

Get a Walbro with a regulator. The pump is $120, rated for diesel, and will pump all the fuel you'll ever need.

But it's also capable of very high pressures, so regulate it down (use a BYPASS regulator!) or you'll pop the filter canister lid or worse.

I like the Aeromotive pumps, but when the Walbro flow as much for 1/3 the price, it's hard to justify.

Walbros are OEM to Ford and others-- they are good quality.

My Holley blue is 3.5 years old, no leaks and the install cost me about $150 back then. 20psi idle ~ 15 psi at WOT. If I had to, I can buy another and have it on the truck in an hour. If you have the money to spend there are better pumps out there. JMHO

I ran a Holley blue for a year with no issues. My friend ran one for a 2 years no problem. My brother put 2 on his truck in 6 months, they keep leaking at the lower seal.

Holley installed, w/zero probs after 1 year. Do a search here for all the install tips and you should have good results. Yes, they are good options IMO and some state they have problems w/their set up, however there are post on here w/others having problems w/other pump. Quality install=quality output.

I think my holley has been on for almost 4 years now, pushing to the stock lift pump. For the money the pump has given great service.

Everything is pretty straight forward. Decide where you want to mount the pump, make a simple mounting bracket and run your fuel lines. Use a relay and use the power wire from the lift pump to trigger the relay. Do a search, there are plenty of ideas floating around on DTR. Hope this helps.
