holley blue wiring

I was wondering what is the best (easiest) way to wire up a holley blue fuel pump. I am going to mount it on the frame on the drivers side. (like all the pics i've seen on this site.) Can it be hooked up with the factory lift pump, or should I get another source of power. Thanks.

Because the holley draws a fair amount of Amps, it is best to use a relay. Use the stock lead as a trigger and have the relay handle the full voltage and amperage. Many also see a few more PSI with that set up too.

I don't have pictures, but you can mount it anywhere really. I have yet to install my relay, but my plan was to mount it on the frame by the pump itself.

Easiest method= tap into the factory LP wiring w/14ga wiring.
I know several who have done this w/zero probs.

If you decided to go the relay route, make sure to keep it away from the hot motor.

The factory Carter lift pump draws about 4.5 amps from the ECM. The ECM may have trouble providing more amperage if the Holley pump draws more current.
How much current does your Holley blue draw at 14.8 volts with cold fuel and dead headed? These are the worst current draw conditions. If the answer to this question is about 4.5 amps then wire it to the ECM. If the answer is greater than 4.5 amps or you cannot answer the question, use a relay to protect the ECM.
I would always use a relay to protect the ECM from over current damage. Inside the ECM is a MOSFET (transistor) that is used to power the lift pump and provide the lower fuel pressure for starting. This MOSFET will blow out if the lift pump wiring gets shorted or if the lift pump draws too much current. The resultant damage will mean buying a new ECM or finding another way to power the lift pump. The choice is yours. My 2 cents, from an electrical engineer.

Mount it right on the fire wall drivers side you already have a grounding screw there I think it's for the hood plus i's right over where you are going to mount it. I did the straight wiring it to the original LP wiring and now I run the relay, the relay will give you better fuel pressure and a more stable fuel pressure because the holley is getting a full 12 volts.

PS. Summit sells a stronger spring to bump up the pressure from the holley to around 20 psi and if you run it in tandem with a stocker you can have at least 30 psi (yeah I know to much pressure but I run a 30 and 10 micron spin on filters)

here is the mount and wiring I did for a few guys. It is easy and works great.

You mount it to your battery hold down and connect your 10ga wire to the hot of the batt and the power in side of the relay with a large in line fuse holder. ( Large Orange Wire)

Then from the load side of the relay use the same 10ga wire all the way back to the pump ( Large Red Wire In Sleve)

then a 10ga wire form the ground of your batt all the way back to the pump. ( Large Black Wire In Sleve)

then ground the - side of your relay trigger to the batt 14ga wire is fine there is very little load to trigger the relay (Small Black Wire)

use a fuse tap to draw power from the factory fuel pump fuse and then it will trigger your relay every time your factory lift pump would normally come on. 14ga wire is fine there is very little load to trigger the relay ( Small Blue Wire)

Can you tell me where you foung the fuse for the LP in the wiring harness/system.
I have read that tapping into the LP harness, or ECm, but I have to remove the starter to get at the LP wiring and that is more than I want to do. Also adding a remot switch is not a good solve for me as I may forget to turn it on/off, . I dont want to go anywhere near thr ECM.
Thanks.

I got all the parts as a Pep Boys auto parts. To trigger it I used a mini fuse tap that slips over one blade and gives you a spade connector that you can use to connect a wire to trip the relay. I use the fuse for the stock lift pump in the main fuse box under the hood to get power to trip the relay. It comes on any time the stock one would come on and dose not draw any extra power threw the stock wiring.

the 2001 does not have a dedicated fuse for the pump, but rather a relay in the main fuse box under the hood.
I guess I will have to tap the wires that go to the LP. Anyone know what color is the feed. There are 2 wires ons is white with a tracer and the other is either black or brown.
Thanks, All real useful info.,
Going to install a Fram HPG-1 in line filter before the pump(fuel tank side). Spin on and cheap replacement elements make it attractive.
