Higher boost, lower egt's towing

Is this possible? First time towing 11,000 lb's since installing a boost elbow, I approached a nice long uphill grade and held it at 65 mph right to the top in 5th gear. Never went above 1100* pre turbo pyro. Only other change is I took out the bhaf and outerwears and put the stock airbox back in with a new stock filter. Before elbow and stock airbox I was hitting 1250* easily and down shifting. Wasgated at 30 psi now with the elbow, before it was 22 psi. Is this normal or what's the deal?

Sounds normal. More air will help cool 'er down. This is true up to a point. From what people say here 35 is good for a hx35 and 28 for the hy- anything above that is just hot air.

Sounds right to me as well

Basically what he said, the more boost, the more it cools, at least to the point of the turbos efficiency, which he already mentioned. So as long as your not going over 35 lbs, your good.

Temps sound right to me. I can not get over 1050-1100 on my truck with the VanAaken.

Sweet! I was going to upgrade the turbo to cool things down but now I can save the dough. Thanks for the replies.

You made two changes at the same time...so hard to say which did what! But I suspect going back to cooler outside air made a big difference (assuming your area is into warmer season now?). Also, you are getting more of it

If EGT's get higher as the weather warms... you can do the "poor mans Scotty" to it (discussed here).... or just get the Scotty II.

Sounds like a great combo!

I went back to the stock filter box just for something to do, after all the recent discussion on the bhaf. One thing I did notice is that the outerwears are a bit restrictive on air flow for the bhaf, it doesn't take much dust to reduce cfm.

Air temp probably had little to do with my improvements, I was seeing 1250* when it was -5C. I think the higher boost with the elbow droped my temps a solid 100*.

I installed my EZ (with boost elbow) and Jardine 4" exhaust on the same weekend, so I can't cite how much contribution each made individually, but towing with stock injectors, pre-turbo EGT dropped from 1300 degF to 1100 degF and maximum boost increased from 21 PSIG to 30 PSIG.
