high idle

How much is this usually running from the dealers to have turned on?

Tell them that you have poor cab heat and white smoke on start up. That is the language from the TSB. As long as you report having the symtoms that the TSB is designed to correct, it is covered under warranty. Just make sure that you request the high idle feature be enabled when they perform it.

Good luck with your dealer. I had quite a hard time getting the high idle enabled on mine. Dealers don't seem to know about this feature.

Poor fuel mileage will trigger the TSB also.

Yes this high idle feature is free. Just ask the Dealer for the latest TSB to be done on your truck and ask to have the high idle enabled. It works like a charm. Just turn on your cruise control and the rpms go up to about 1000, then you can up it to about 1500 or anywhere in between 1000-1500 using the opposite side controls. Really nice to use on a cold day to help with warm up. Good luck.

The high idle only works on the automatic tranny trucks, correct? I thought that's what I'd read somewhere. Can someone verify that?

Assuming that is the case, can anyone point me to an aftermarket auxilary idle control module I could install on my 6 speed?

Thanks everyone - have a great Holiday !!!

Those of us with 6 speeds are SOL as far as cruise control high idle. The only aftermarket auxilary idle controle module that I am aware of is available at your local lumber yard. Just ask for one and they should have it readaly available.

I've got an '03 SO 5-speed and it's always had the high idle feature turned on. I don't know how cold it has to be, but it's been getting below 30 degrees recently, so it's been coming on.
Once I crank it up, it idles normal for about 2 minutes or so before idling up. Then it stays at high idle for anytime between 5 and 10 minutes before it goes back to normal idle.
It's a very nice feature!

Not the same thing. The high-idle we're talking about is user-controlled. I went to the dealership where my Uncle is a service manager, I told him what I wanted done, and how to do it. He tried looking for that TSB but he said the system was down til after the first. I asked him if I could bring a tech and tell him what to do, because I know what had to be done. Took all of 30 seconds to enable the feature. The TSB# is 18-004-04 . To enable it, DRB gets plugged in, go to engine, then misc, then idle-up enable, then enable it after the 4-5 screens explaining what the feature does. Don't even have to turn off the truck and turn it back on to test it. You press Cruise control then set while in Park, and it idles up to 1,100rpm. You can use The Accelerate/Decellerate buttons to set idle speed from 1,100rpm to 1,500rpm.
