High idle

I have a 2007 QC 3500 DRW 4x4 6 speed 5.9 with 8k miles on it, pyro, boost, Roktech sensor, kitty gone and genisis brake controller hooked up using factory harness.

I took my truck to a local small town dodge dealer today to have the high idle enabled....THey said no problem, weve done a ton. So they checked something in the vin and said it had teh feature? Then took the truck in the shop, they called me back and the tech said he couldnt get it to work. He showed me on the scanner where he was turning it on and i watched the program install, he checked all the switches on the cruise and we could not get it to idle up. Even tried unhooking the brake controller, i checked all fuses and coudl find nothing wrong...E-brake was on and the light was on.

They said they are going to call dodge and try to find out what the deal is

Anyone have any insight? MY cruise still works just fine btw

Very good question considering the dealer claimed to have done "a ton of them"

Because truth be told, most owners know more about their trucks than the dealers do!

The dealer won't do this because it's messing with the OEM ECM wiring configuration and not approved by DC - they want you to buy a $280 clutch switch instead. If you do ground out pin #22, don't tell them and make your work look OEM like someone else's I know. The reason folks are doing that instead, is it is easier, costs less than $20 from Cummins, and does essentially the same thing. The clutch switch / ECM mod is required to get the high idle to work on 6-speed trucks even though it has been enabled.

Very good question considering the dealer claimed to have done "a ton of them"
They probably have done "a ton of them"......automatics, not 6-speeds. As stated previous, manual trannies require the clutch switch or cheaper ECM mod to work.

Because truth be told, most owners know more about their trucks than the dealers do!
This is very likely, very true. Most tech,'s won't know about grounding out pin #22 because it's not in their books. You need a fantastic site like this to inform you of these little details.

I'm impressed by all of your respective dealers. My dealer (about 4 different people in the service dept.) all said that there is no such thing as a "high idle" function on ANY DC truck. And when I told them that there most certainly was and it could be controlled by the speed control, they almost wet themselves in laughter.

So after much convincing I had the service manager hook up the DRBIII and what do you know....there it was, and it works like a charm

I suppose that it should be mentioned that I am in central Florida so I imagine not many people go in to their shop trying to improve their cab heat and engine warm up as per TSB 18-004-04. Nevertheless, they are still retards in my book.

I took my truck into my dealer and asked for the high idle to be activated and they looked at me like I was crazy. Said they have never heard of that before, but they would give it a shot. Five minutes later it was enabled and the dealer learned something new.

It's bad when a first time diesel owner tells the service department something they don't know.

But, I can't complain about the service....so far so good.

Cummins Part # is 3164263

They usually run around $12.50 for the part. I bought mine from Inland Kenworth in Farmington, New Mexico. 505-327-0200 Ask for Kevin F.

Also, if the dealer already enabled yours, you should not have to take it back after the wiring mod on pin #22. I also found out after the dealer enabled mine, along with other features I requested, I had to pull the keep alive memory fuse (or disconnect the battery) for about 30 seconds to make the downloads take effect.
