High Idle

When should you run the High idle? Should you run it in Neutral or park? should yo use it to warm truck up? should you use itto cool everything down?

I've heard if you run the truck idle for a long time to put it in neutral, something about building heat in the tranny.

I would use it to warm up the truck, or when you anticipate long, long periods of idleing. Never thought about using it to cool er down....

I use mine mostly when I start it up on cold mornings or when I need to run into the store for just a few minutes. I seperated the remote locking thingy from the key that way I can lock the doors while the truck is still running..

Must be a simple misunderstanding. I do it all the time.
Just remove your remote control off your key ring, leave the keys in the ignition with the engine running. Get out of the truck and lock the doors with the remote. Now you can get back in by unlocking the doors with the remote.

'05's don't have the integrated key fob in the key like the '06's do. I have a separate key on a quick disconnect so I can lock the truck with it running. Can't use it for anything other than unlocking the door though.

I see. You're getting us key/fob combo guys all excited on being able to lock the doors with the second key/fob after driving.

Currently, this can only be done right after start up with the second fob. As, soon as it is driven any distance (other than backing it out of the garage), then using the second fob to lock the doors doesn't work.

Here I thought a solution to this issue was found.

I am looking at having my valve body mod'd to allow fluid to flow while in park. I don't leave the truck while idling in Neutral...Don't think it's safe.

When you initially put it in neutral, you will see the temp go up. This is actually hot fluid that was stored in converter being flushed out. After ~2-3 minutes the temp should plateau and start falling, albeit slowly.

I use it to cool mine down. Start at 1500 rpm & exhaust at 400F-500F, then as the tems cool down, slowly bring the idle down to 1100 rpm. As the temp hits 325F, i shut off the hi idle (normal 700rpm) & kill the engine at 300F.
