High idle enabled, but won't work?

Hey, I had the truck in for the reflash for CEL battery temp rationality code, and went ahead and had the high idle thing enabled.

The thing is, neither I or the technician could get it to work. It says to turn speed control on, hit set, and accel or coast to change RPM, but we get nothing.

Doesn't matter if the doors are open, if the parking brake is on, or if you hold set while pressing the other buttons.

Tried disabling the feature, and re-enabling it. No change.

Cruise works normally, so all the buttons and the brake light switch must be OK.

Any ideas?

Doesn't work with a Manual unless you jump or ground something. Search for it here and you'll find a dozen threads or so.

Got it. In a nut shell you have to ground pin B-22, either with a Cummins wiring harness repair thing P/N3164263, or with a clutch switch kit.

Thanks. I missed it while searching before.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the like $350 price for the clutch switch is all about.

They can't very well say it is a safety feature, since the automatic idle up works in cold temps and drops to 750 once the truck starts to move.

Yeah, I heard it was like $100 from Cummins, but I just ordered the jumper wire instead.

The clutch c/o switch is just added safety, it kicks out the hi idle when the clutch pedal is depressed, the same thing happens when you tap the brake pedal... Check ebay pricing as well for the c/o switch if you are inclined to use it..

When I set mine up I ran the ground wire through the firewall and grounded it next to the trailer plug in case I decide to add the c/o switch down the road..

I bought the switch kit from Cummins and it was around $100. The little jumper wire was included in the kit and is all that is needed. There are other safety features in place. If you touch the brake, it idles back, if the vehicle moves any, it idles back too. Enjoy.

Got a couple of the pins from Cummins the other day, and just put the jumper wire in.

Works great.

I don't see the clutch switch as necessary for safety. When the thing idles up automatically in cold weather, it disengages and idles back as soon as you hit the brake, or move the truck even slightly.

The manual high idle disengages the same way.

Anyhow, thanks to everyone for the help.

It should be really handy when taking a nap in the truck in the winter, jumpstarting someone, or for having the AC running faster on those times when you get stuck parked on the freeway behind a wreck on a 100+ day.
