High Idle Again
So how many of you guys out there have had the high idle turned on like me and too our delight found out it wont kick on for nothing. If so what did you ultimately do too get it too work? All the conditions are right for mine too work and still nothing. So now I am looking at finding a stand alone unit too enable a high idle.

Well here is what I found out. I went out side and yanked the IAT out again its been maybe 15 thousand or more since I cleaned it last and well what do you know it was pitch black darker than the inside of a boot could not even see a spot of white let alone the little diode in the middle of the sensors cadge. Now what was what I thought due too not being chipped my lower than normal mileage might make sense and it has seemed down on power. I can only believe that this was the reason it was not coming on and I think it fowled faster because the chip was failing and could have been over fueling every thing. Plus I use my exhaust brake allot also.

I just got mine enabled a couple weeks ago. One dealer wouldn't enable it with a manual, went to another, they couldn't figure it out, they called back the next day once they figured out how to enable it, so I drove back to town and they were done in 5 minutes, didn't charge me a thing.
So far, the high idle is working, but still haven't seen the 3cylinder idle kick on. It hasn't been that cold here, but the other night when I got home it was 11 degrees out and no 3 cylinder...
It's 0 out right now, think I'll go give it a try. If it doesn't kick on I'll try cleaning the IAT sensor too. I hadn't thought of that.

Well, just went out and tried it, truck's been sitting since yesterday morning. Thermometer on my house says 2 degrees, the overhead console showed 21. Neither the high idle or the 3 cylinder kicked on. Think I'll let it sit and try it again later. If it still don't work I'll try cleaning the IAT sensor.

if you unplug the IAT sensor and put a 39K ohm resistor in the harness according to the attitude my intake temp is then 28 degrees which should then kick on the high idle. I asked a dealer to enable it last summer and they supposedly did but i did this little trick and got nothing

i replaced my IAT prior to hooking up the smarty... high idle works from about 28 down to about 12... anything below 12, 3 cyl kicks in... sounds like a jackhammer running... i'm sure my neighbors really like me on those cold mornings now

theres another route to take, a guy on the idahobombers forum sells manual high idles for the 24 valves. I bought one from him, install was a breeze, and it's adjustable. The only trick to it is that you have to use the pedal to set the RPMs, and then turn the switch on, it doesn't have enough power to push the throttle lever itself. It works great though, I love mine. Anyone interested, shoot me a PM, and I'll get his info to you. BTW, I paid about $55 with shipping for mine.
