Thumbs down Is HF amateur radio history now???

Signed into law in the last couple of days is the bill that allows Internet signals over the power line system. Due to interference there will be no more short wave reception in the US. Does this also eliminate HF ham radio, it is expected to.

How about that, no more short wave news and programs.

Bye, Bye, CB also...

I haven't been keeping many tabs on this subject, but I hope that technology moves quick enough to work out the interference issues. Though in my case it wouldn't affect me badly because I never us HF, only 2m and 440.

On a seperate note what I am wondering is, how has Michael Powell's appointment to his position helped or hurt Amateur Radio Operators. Based on many of his other actions, it seems that he lacks the qualifications, understanding and has caused a general decline in all aspects of all FCC regulated communications. Just some of my under-educated wonderings.

If you will notice and I have been given, there is absolutely no attempt to protect short wave broadcasts, the transmission lines will radiate. Listening to BBC and whatnot will be over.

The question to be asked is not "Does he lack the qualifications?" The question is "Did this man get a job over other equally or more qualified candidates because of his lineage?" The answer is obvious. Mike, Powell doesn't give a hoot about amateur radio, and has opened a Pandora's box by allowing BPL. What's going to happen when John Q. starts to complain about the AM broadcast band? While you might say, "Who cares about the AM band anyway?", big cities like Boston, NYC and Philly all have major AM news only stations that pull huge numbers. The FCC is so understaffed, they won't be able to handle all of the complaints, so they'll go mostly ignored. Michael Powell is interested in one thing and one thing only, Broadcast Decency standards. Powell is is so centered on his witch hunt to run down broadcasters like Howard Stern, he's missing the big picture. Our only hope is that BPL will be eclipsed by a more efficient technology, possibly neighborhood wireless nets like WiMAX. Mike, I love the 6 meter, 2 meter, and the 70 centimeter bands and have substantial antennas for weak signal DX'ing, and these may be minimally affected by BPL. But my bread and butter is the HF bands. I love constesting and chasing DX. If BPL comes down my road, my goose is cooked. Before I say this, let me state that yeah, I know he was appointed to the commision by Clinton. That said, Bush gave him the chairman position, and if he gets re-elected, we're going to see another 4 years of this guy. If Amateurs were looking for only one reason why they should vote for the opposition, this would be it. While it might be too late to stop BPL, what's next? -K3GM-
