My buddy just said I could have a 50 gal drum of oil left in his shop by the previous tenant. The guy was an A/C guy and I believe the drum is "Refrigeration oil". Looks and smells like regular oil. CAN I BURN IT IN MY TRUCK? Oil is Oil, right? It is new and clean...

I thought refrideration oil was tinted, so you could see a leak?

Sorry Dude.... That is not quite enough info to say one way or the other... Weight? Syn? Additives?.... I guess a gallon or 2 at a time won't hurt.... But without knowing more it is difficult to say..

Looks and smells like a lightweight machine oil. Closer inspection, looks like it is used, though not black like auto oil. Don't think it's synthetic. As I mentioned the guy who left it behind was an A/C repair guy. Someone suggested that maybe it's old R12 compatible oil.

Either way, it looked close enough that I dumped about 2 gallons into a 3/4 full tank of diesel today - no problems at all.

Anybody else have any ideas? Please chime in...

How about brand new oil? I've got a couple of quarts of misc. oil that I know I won't use. Like a quart of 20W 50 Harley oil for instance. I dont have a bike anymore. I'd rather burn it than throw it away.

Please search for other post that contain the information that you are looking for!! The motor oils are designed NOT to burn and this will cause contamination of the combustion chamber+!!!! Get some 2cycle oil that is designed to burn and be used in high heat and high friction enviroments. Please dont just pour something that smells like oil into your fuel system[dummy] !

Many have used clean and WMO (waste motor oil) up to even 50% with Diesel - NO problems - It this particular drum I got ahold of that makes me curious, not the burning of oil.

Agreed. I've burnt many 'a gallon my day. There is no doubt that is a happening thing.:)

I would be cautious about running used refrigerant oil through your cummins, because it can contain high levels of acids and poisonous substances. I'm sure it would combust OK, but I'd be wanting to change the oil & filter a lot sooner!
