Question Here is a "Strange" question

Guy I work with came in today talking about he was watching something last night on satellite and it was on Gas and Diesel engines. They said something about adding a certain amount of acetone to your tanks of fuel to achieve better mileage per gallon. The gain they say is something like 10-20%. What is this crap about. I have heard something about this before, that it is supposed to help the fuel atomize more but doesn't acetone have a very high burn temp? I would think this would do more damage than good, or just all damage and no good. Has anyone else heard anything about this? I don't want to try it in my truck I want to hear from someone who has already done it, and maybe I would run it in my lawn mower first.

HHMMM Art Bell, not sure I would risc my Cummins on an Art Bell show recommendation. Now if I was trying to contact the pilot of the UFO I saw late the other night he would probably be the one I would contact first.

Okay. please let me know what happens.

However on a serious note, I would appreciate serious comments. I know there is probably enough comedy we could lay out on this, however that was not the intention of this post. Thanks again, and look forward to any information. I have read on here where one person used it I hope that they are still a member and willing to talk about it.

There was a post awhile back on this, internet links and all. I took the acetone off the shelf and poured it into a container planning on mixing Lucas and acetone for a tank to see what it did. Poured in 3 oz acetone and filled the 5.5 oz container the rest of the way with lucas. When I sent it down, the two (acetone and lucas) seperated like oil and water? What is up with that? I figured acetone wasn't compatible with oils. I dumped it in anyway and had no noticable diference in mileage or performance. That is the one and only time I used acetone. I have mixed MMO, PS, Lucas, Howes together and they mix fine so I am staying away from acetone in diesel.

Ok...that is what I assumed and wanted to talk with someone who did it. Thank you for the serious reply.

Supernova has the article. Read the whole thing before you try it. I read it . Some things I disagree with but I tryed it. 2 OZ per 10 gal diesel. I swear it made the cummins run a hair sweeter. Tryed it in the lawn mower and Honda Helix scooter. They all ran smoother. And I do believe I picked up a couple of mpg on the cummins.
Theres a chart in that article showing how much to use , it dont take much but gassers take more then diesel. AND they forwarn you thatbit takes PAINT OFF.

I run Acetone in my Harley. Helps with performance and the engine runs smoother. Not much change in the fuel economy but she's a rich running pig anyway.

I tried it when I had my HEMI - didn't see any results. My dad tried it in his Tahoe and didn't see any results. The article I read said that you have to get just the right mixture for your particular vehicle. If it needs 2.5oz per 10 gallons of fuel, 2oz or 3oz may show no differance but 2.5oz would. I guess I just don't have the patience to deal with it. It also said that sometimes it takes 2 or 3 tanks to see the results - not sure why that would be. Anyway, I thought it was a pain to store it and ad it without spilling any on the truck. The first container I tried was not a compatible plastic and it melted - dummie .

I wouldn't do it in a diesel, our fuel lubricity is bad now, the acetone would make it worse.

2oz to 10 gal isnt going to delute the lubericity any, Its supposed to give you a better and cleaner burn . This should improve things. But it is a pain to put in there, especialy with the paint issue and the precise amount.

NOT IN MY TRUCK, it doesn't give enough benefits for my to justify the risks! All I will run is fuel additive or Biodiesel in mine.
