Help with tire choice

I need some new tires on my 03. I dont really tow much or load it down heavy often, but on ocassion I do. Im look at getting 285/70R/17 Birdgestone Dueler A/T Revos. They are only a load range D tire but the weight rating on them is 3195lbs. My tire guy says they are going to be soft and cause the truck the wander all over the road. Am I going to have a problem with these? I checked for a load E of the same tire and I would have to drop back to a 265, but the weight rating is the same between the two. Let me know what you guys think.

I run 35x12.50 BFG M/T's on my truck, load range D. They have about 45k on them and will last me another 15k or so. Great tire, not loud on the road at all, and great in the snow. I know you could get them in a 285/70R17.

I have 285 Cooper D rated ATR's, I DON'T wander all over the road like your tire guy says. They have the same weight capacity at lower psi.

I'd get E's if they made them in that size but there's not many E's in 285's or 315's, the next size I wanna get.

I run 315 D BFG AT KO with no issues. Occasional large load is 15K. 10% gain overall. MPG about the same.

I have the 285 BFG KOs with the triple sidewalls and I believe they are E rated. I got 80,000+ miles out of my first set and have about 70,000 on my second set. The tread may not be as agressive as you want but you can't beat the mileage. I have 154,000 miles on the truck and only 2 sets of tires - not too bad.

My tire guy talked me into Nitto Dura Grapplers. They seem to be pretty good, nice and quite and decent ride too.
