Question Help me diagnose cruise control not working

My CC doesn't work. I hit the button on the steering wheel and no light comes on in the dashpanel.
No cruise functioning at all.
I went through the fusebox, and all fuses appear to be OK.
There is NO fuse designated for cruise either.
I went under the hood and checked that fusebox and still everything APPEARS to be OK.
How do I systematically check this out?
I have a 1998 12 valve quadcab dually with a 5 speed.
I love the truck,but jeeps...gotta have cruise!!!
Your suggestions welcome!!
Dave

I guess another possibility could be your clockspring. Do you hear any noise when you turn the wheel from lock to lock?

There is no light on the dash, but there is one on the switch panel on the steering wheel. Vacuum wouldnt affect the light coming on- that sounds like a lack of power flow.

Pull the switch out- there are two screws from underneath the steering wheel that allow it to come out, then get out a multi-meter and start checking for power and ground. Or, go to the dealer and just get a new switch panel. I think mine was about $50? That was with my shop discount, but they shouldnt be much more than that at retail.

Best bet is to buy the Diagnostic Manual for your truck here
www.techauthority.com/
They cost under $15 and have over 50 pages of step by step procedures on diagnosing the cruise control alone.
Otherwise you can end up needlessly throwing parts at the problem.

There won't be a light on the steering wheel....that's for the older models. This truck is a 98 the year they went to the new interior design.
(Same as the 2001 I used to have)
The 2001 light came on in the dash.
I was thinking it is an electrical problem....namely the on/off switch on the steering wheel.
I was hoping to check a fuse, but don't know which circuit it is on.

Vacuum lines and lights: I've had to replace vacuum lines several times now and have never seen lack of vaccum affect the indicator light. If memory serves correctly when my switch stopped working I removed it and cleaned all connections with electrical contact cleaner. It's still working a few years later. It seems that on another forum the comment was made that the clockspring and/or switch was a weak point in 199x model Dodges. Double A is on the right path - check electricals.

It wouldn't hurt to check the vacuum, but it doesn't sound like that's the problem. On my '97 the line that breaks most often is the one that runs from the vacuum pump to the firewall. I finally replaced the plastic line with a rubber line. Maybe that'll last longer.

You sure?
Neither of my '95s have a light in either place, there has never been a cruise light anywhere.
