help me choose a donaldson muffler
ok, so i have recently replaced my turbo and needed a new DP. but the new DP does not meet up with the rest of my 4" MBRP system. as such, i am currently running straight piped right out of the DP under the cab . . . bottom line is right now i need a muffler. also, when the 4" MBRP system was fully intact it was a bit loud for my liking. don't get me wrong, i liked the sound quality, but not crazy about the sound level. i want to go as quiet as possible and have decided on a 51" donaldson. i have two choices, 4" or 5":
4" M090544
5" M090535
i think the 4" has baffles (which can be knocked out if needed), and the 5" is straight thru. i would need reducers for the 5" obviously . . .
what would you guys go with? both are going to be quieter than what i was running, so which one will give the nicest sound/performance/least drone?

If you want it really quiet without cutting into the flow too much, consider this one ~ https://dynamic.donaldson.com/webc/W...10&item=163863
It's substantially quieter than the two you list and flows slightly less than the 5" you mention.

9" diameter is pushing it for fit . . . i think 10" might be a bit too big to fit . . . thanx for the find though, looks like a great muffler with a good compromise point for performance/power . ..

How much do you want to spend Jason? Hard to get these truck to be quiet inside. Most of the noise comes from under the hood. I vote for the straight pipe. The 5in exhaust sounds better, if you want a muffler. Talk to Harry for some cheap exhausts. Saw your the truck today. Nice ride buddy. We could have had time to get your parts on today...

thanx mike -
i think i am opting for the 5" muffler with my 4" system. the flow characteristics compared to the 4" muffler are too good to pass up. i am ordering it from ryder fleet products for about $80USD . . . i guess i'll have to get some reducers and band clamps while i'm at it.
yeah, we could have had time, but i was busy with the GF all day yesterday, today, and tomorrow . . . i figured i'd just take it to rob and get it all done by him at once so i can actually enjoy the truck instead of working on it for the rest of the summer . . . i still gotta' get out and check out your new truck and project in the garage . ..

It was my turn down at Robs yesterday I saw the truck. Just finishing up my rear dana 70 to dana 80 conversion. I have used two aftermarket exhausts. I have a flow master stainless tubing (which I bought from NAPA). The flow muffler is just aluminized and starting to rust. I gave my old BD 4in exhaust to Brett (has a very nice healthy growl to it). I don't like the flow master, but its quiet.
My 10 I'm just using the stock muffler, its just a hollow pipe with some acoustic baffells. You can hardly tell that the truck has hardly been modified.

cool, be interetsing to hear it and compare to my old man's truck with the 5" TBE system with straigt thru muffler.
not sure yet, but i might need some 4" pipe - maybe i can take some of it off your hands for some beer . . . i'll have to wait for the muffler to get here to see what i need though.
