HELP! Intermittent AC blower power
HELP! Intermittent AC blower power
I have had this truck for about 5 months. It is a 1996 Ram 2500 4x4 and of course diesel. The blower fan will cut in and out while driving. If I hit a bump some times it will kick in till I hit the next bump.
When it comes on I hear a clicking sound, something like a relay clicking on/off, from around the steering wheel.
I have replaced the blower motor resistor and the blower motor with no improvement. I checked the F2 fuse in the fuse panel and it looks good and is tight. I took the shroud off the steering column and the black and orange wire looks ok.
I guess the only part I know to try next is the fan control switch on the dash.
Help, it is getting old aim for bumps in the road to turn my AC on.

There was a recall for an updated ignition switch wiring due to the blower motor drawing more amps than the switch could handle. It added a relay to help take the load off of the ign. switch. I've still seen ignition switches fail even after the update. Pull the bottom shroud off of the steering wheel cover and lok for any melted wires or lose connections. They are typically pretty noticeable. Wiggle the pink and green wires to see if you can figure out which one is causing the issue. I'd bet it is one of them. Should just be some 3-4 torx ( t-20 IIRC) or phillips screws to get the bottom cover off.

A little update
The ignition switch wiring looks normal.
I had to do the weekly dump run in the truck this afternoon. I found wacking the panel between the drivers and passengers foot well would some time restart the blower. I am now wanting to remove that panel to see whats back there that could be loose.

The relay mounts under the drivers knee blocker. Follow the green wire from the blower motor on the passenger side to the driver's side. If someone did a shotty install on the recall it could just be a poor connection. The relay will be an obvious add on with ping and green 12 ga wiring going to it. Look at all the connections good.
