Help!! Injector Problem

please i hope someone can help, i installed my new era 435 injectors today and it smokes white smoke at idle. in gear and all they way to 80mph+ it shakes like it has a BIG cam and white smoke continously flows out my exhaust. i studders bad at every light when i start to slowly accelerate, and smokes even up to 80mph+ it has a vibrating feel like its only running on 5 cylinders and smooths out a little under heavy acceleration at wot it stiull makes a bad sound like a popping. my egts are way cooler under harder acceleration and more boost at 50-75mph but it shake like mad. sorry for the long write. i only have lasercut dvs and a #4 fuel plate im runnig an htt 71 series 64/14 turbo with a stage2 afe filter and 4inch straight pipe. thanks for any ideas, i have my stock dvs and im wondering if i should put them back in??

Just a guess but?
Did you ensure the bores and seat areas were perfectly clean?
How about the sealing washers were they new?

nope, made sure all the washers from the old injectors came out, i just finished the test run with my stock dvs back in, white smoke stopped once engine warmed up, egts seemed a little warmer in all around driving and especially at wot they were hotter than with the laser cuts, no more shuttering or noises or lopeyness though, should i advance the timing to 15.5 for the laser cuts, it seems like they made WAY more power but weren't streetable since the truck nearly shook itself apart and the constintly smoked at idle. im hopeing some timing will help, what do you guys think? thanks

Yeah a thinner washer might help but how about bumping the timing to 17*

well i had a shop supposedly bump the timing to 17, my truck ran so crappy and it smoked so much it was illegal to drive, and it over heated twice, the shop had to send a mechanic out to turn the timing back so i could drive the darn thing, so im going to have them set it at 15.5 (i was recomended to start at that first) since the shop owes me, and then see how it work and next payday i will order a timing kit so i can find the sweet spot.

Just wait until you get a timing kit and do it yourself, it really isn't very hard. Mine did the same thing as yours (bucking, white smoke, etc...) and playing with the AFC helped a bunch and then bumping the timing nearly eliminated the problems.

what did you do to the afc, also i just noticed my valet switch had been on the whole time, so i wasn't even all the way fueled, if i play with the timing will the smoke at idle go away? along with the bucking at low speeds and shudering at high speeds? thanks

Fury:

You may have knocked some gunk or paint chip into the fuel lines when you changed them out and it is gumming up an injector. The shaking doesn't sound right. I've got a similar set up and mine were smooth. They do smoke more (idle and power) until warmed up. I later developed a bit of "popping" at higher rpm's and am in the process of putting a new head on. When I took #1 injector out, the copper washer hadn't seated and the injector body was covered in soot. Don't know what the cylinder will look like until this weekend.

Maybe crack each fuel line to see if the shudder changes to find out which injector is giving you problems. I would recheck the timing myself and set it at 16 - 17, at least.

I just adjusted its position forwards and rearwards, and starwheel tension. The white smoke at idle might be from bad timing, if that shop did it the first time at "17*" and it barely ran etc. then I would check it when you do the timing, they could have set it wrong. The white smoke at idle is only when you first start it up and the cylinders are cold right? Mine will smoke alot of white when I first start it but will clear up after the engine is warmed up. When I checked my timing I was only at 3mm of plunger lift, which I think is 8*-9* of timing, so bumping it up to 18* made a HUGE difference. My truck will still buck if I don't get into the throttle right but for the most part it is gone and I can drive around it when it feels like being a nuisance.

The primary cause of white smoke on a warmed up engine is a faulty fuel injector, assuming you got the washers right. Sure they're new but not unheard of to get a bad one or a badly mismatched set. You could send them back for checking or pay for a flow and pop test.
The secondary cause might be timing, but it did not smoke before the injector swap? It appears that your timing number is questionable in any case.

well i talked to new era diesel and they said these injectors run best when timing is at 16.5, so i'll bump the timing and then throw the lasercuts back in to see, also the smoke went away when the lasercuts were swapped for my stock ones. and no more bucking or popping at wot. so im guessing my timing needs to get done and then i'll repost and let you guys now how it goes. thanks
