Help with ID 5.9L L6 HPDI TRBO DSL
Trying to find out what type of motor is in my future 2500. Have the VIN and have been searching for a web site to find additional info with little success.
Have gotten a carfax report that jives with the information provided by the seller.
Any input would be appreciated as the sale is imminent.
Thanks in advance Serge

Am looking at buying a 98 regular cab 2wd. First time future diesel owner trying to find out if the engine is 12V or 24V and if the block is a 53
The seller didn't know of which he was slightly embarrassed hehe, I told him I would find out for myself.
thanks for the response

Look at the 8th digit. If it's a 6 it's a 24 valve. A 12 valve will be a C or a D. I don't think you can find out if it's a 53 block unless you actually see the numbers on the casting. There were some 12 valve 53 blocks in 98, but I have heard that they're not an issue for cracking. (for what that's worth.)

My 8th digit is a D quite excited right know for this is a 12 valve.
It has 195k miles (335000km) and I can get it for around $7500 Cdn. Has been repainted black. Seems to be all highway and since the truck is 2wd it never plowed, the box has no liner and the damage to it is minimal.
Have to admit I am quite anxious for tomorrow.
One concern was some white smoke wisping up from the oil dipstick.
Thanks for the great info "Torquefan", just made my weekend even sweeter.
