HELP harmonic balancer won't budge
2001 5.9. I have a harmonic balancer puller from Mac on the crank and a tool holding the flywheel so it won't turn. The radiator is out. I have a piece of plywood between the condesnor and engine so if it snaps off it won't destroy the condensor.
I've cranked on the puller as hard as l dare -pretty hard using a cheater bar on a 1/2 breaker bar - and the harmonic balancer won't budge. (all 4 bolts are out) l've never had a balancer not budge. Has anyone heard of this problem???
l'm pulling out what hair l have left!!!
Please help.
Thank you
Reid

The balancer pilots onto the crank a bit, and corrosion can foul the works. Some taps with a small hammer should help if you have it loaded with a puller already. Leave one of the damper bolts in but loose maybe an 1/8" so it wont drop on your fingers when it lets go. Hit it so most of the force goes towards the center of the balancer and it shouldn't hurt the rubber/steel bond.

brain fart.
l was threading the bolts into the crank. l took the puller off, hammered the flat part of the balancer with a rivet gun, then used a pry bar and it popped off.
