Help with gauges, Edge Comp !

Just put the comp on..... Oh my lord! Hard to believe that little box makes so much Hp. I've got lots of questions about using the comp and the gauges(EGT, BOost, FP)

1. What real info is the boost gauge giving you, or , how is this thing going to tell you if your truck is performing well or having problems.

2. Fuel pressure gauge.... at idle I'm at 13.5 and at hiway speed of 65-70 about 10-11. Now at WOT I've seen this thing get below 5, but goes back up when you let off the throttle. Are these numbers OK? Is my FP too low and is it time to look for a FASS system?

3. The Edge Comp - yes I had the guy who put it on hook up the pump wire. I know I'll need tranny work to go along with those power gains. But, if i am careful with the go peddal can I slide by for a few months. What is harder on the tranny - WOT starts or punching it when going down the hiway? With the wire tapped if I keep the comp turned down to 2 or three will that still require tranny work if I only occasionally turn it up to 5x5.

Thanks for any info. This was my first real BOMB. I can see this will be real addictive as well as expensive. But man does it feel GOOD!!!!!!!

Thanks, Buz.

Where the boost gauge is hooked matters when you talk about the info it gives. I tapped mine into the intake horn and it gives me the actual boost pressure in the manifold. The boost bolts and the plug install give you the same info. You monitor the boost pressure to tell you if you delvelope leaks in the intake system. Boost leaks cut performance off at the knees. Stock boost is between 17 and 20psi.

Your WOT fp is a little low. You want no less than 8psi at any time. You could go to FASS, but a stock lift pump will work too. It all depends on what you are willing to spend.

How long the tranny lasts depends on how much you beat it. I would say that launches from stop are the hardest on them. If you don't bury your foot all the time and you keep the comp on a low setting you could ride your tranny for 50k. Again it's all in your foot.

1. If your EGTs are excessive and you have below normal boost showing up on your gauge, you could pinpoint the problem to a boost leak of some sort.

2. below 5psi is not good. should be better around 8psi for the low end.

3. i would say WOT starts are harder because your TC would not be locked and your are heating the tranny fluid. either way, both are not easy on the stock tranny. why spend the money on the comp if you cant enjoy all the power levels? get some tranny work, but you should be able to get by for a few months if you have self control.

I could get my fp below 5 with the comp.I only did it once. And then put a new lp on and it was not any better than before. So I got a holley blue and put it back by the tank, still utilizing the stock lp.I used the regulator so I can set my idle pressures to whatever I want to.Works great and is pretty cheap.$150 including all materials.

Thanks for the info. I may look into something to help with the low fuel pressure. What's the best product for the $$ to increase fuel pressure?

I just tossed a Vulcan Lift Pump relocation kit, I don't see below 12psi @ WOT w/ a stock lift pump. $120 for the kit, and it's a great kit.

Where can the lift pump relocation kit be found?

"Tossed" or "installed". Sounds like you just installed a relocation kit. Can you provide more info... never heard of the "vulcan" kit before. Definitely heard of relocating the pump though.

Please more info if possible. Where did you get it BTW.
