HELP Fuel tank size

Hello I have done a search about this and have become more confused. Could somebody tell me what size fuel tank i have or how to find out (with out running out an then filling the tank). I have a 1998.5 2500 quad cab short bed 4x4, 24 valve automatic trans. I just bought this truck a few days ago and when I fueled up yesterday it took 26.4 gallon an the gauge still read almost 1/4 tank. Thanks in advance Bob

Short be trucks have a 34 gal tank and long bed trucks have a 35 gal tank. This said, you do not want to let fuel drop below 1/8 of a tank at the most as the fuel lubricates the injection pump on these trucks.

That is very true. An aftermarket lift pump should be a top priority as well as gauges (fuel pressure, EGT, and Boost as well as Tranny temp for auto trucks). I have always been told though that the fuel tends to get very hot when the tank is run low and looses is lubricating properties somewhat.

never had that problem. the lube now is way less then before so now for the older trucks an additive is need for the lube. the reason that heat would kill the ip is due to the fact that it has to work twice as hard by pulling its own fuel and not enough to keep its internals cool.

in every other tank i run the lucas oil in my tank and mine is a longe bed 3500 it holds 35 ... but that is the same thing i heard that it has to work twice as hard tofull the fuel from the bottom i try and keep mine above 1/2 sometimes i will let it get 1/4 and then add a lil more lucas to it.... i have heard that you can run 1 bottle of ATF oil in the fuel and it will lubricate it also...dont know havent tryed it lol

How can it be twice as hard to pull fuel off the bottom of the tank?

The pickup tube inlet should be near the bottom of the tank. Otherwise you would run out of fuel once it sucked up air.
