Help with DRW Rear brakes - Dana 80
Last weekend I spent way too much time attmpting to remove my rear brake drums (first time since I bought the truck). I plan on changing everything brake related. After cleaning the hubs, using Kroil and a BFH I shot a bunch more Kroil and re-assembled. This weekend I will try again. I'm now thinking I may need to remove the spindle and use my press to seperate the drums. Anybody know what size and configuration (4 or 6 prong or standard hex) the rear spindle nut on an 01 d80 is?
Any other useful tricks?

The drums are just rusted on.
Jack both rears off the ground and block up securely.
Remove all rear tires then screw one lug nut back on each side a few turns.
Start engine, put it in gear, rev it up and slam on the brakes.
Put in reverse if necessary.
You will hear a loud pop when the drums break free.
The lug nut is so you don't have to chase the drums down the street.
Use anti seize when you put it back together so next time is easy.
This method has worked every time for me. It's been at least a decade since I've used a sledge hammer or penetrating oil.
Highly doubt you will have to replace the rear shoes or drums but you should replace the cylinders with larger part number 37337 cylinders, about $15 each from any autoparts. Will increase your rear braking power by over 25%, the rears will start doing their fair share of the work and the front pads will last longer.
I guarantee you will be impressed with the improved braking.
