I have left no Intro, yet. I apologize, but, I really need to find out the location of the crankshaft position sensor on my '01 5.9l H.O. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

i think the 01s dont hyave it its just a cam position sensor if you have one its behind the starter on the drivers side have to pull starter to get it the cap position sernsor is under the injection pump serch the threads for crank position sensor

You're right. Not there . There is a blank over the mount location. They sure sold me one though. Don't know what the problem is, now!! My tach drops out and causes near death loss of power. Threads were all pointing to CKP. Back to the drawing board!!

Should be a crank sensor mounted on timing cover. Just below water pump, this is where the tach gets it signal. Hard to get at, check wire routing and connector front of engine near valve cover. When replacing check clearance, make sure it doesnt contact crankshaft ballancer. Use feeler gauge to check clearance.

On the front side? Near the pulleys? Nothing.

The sensor up front is the Engine Speed Sensor (ESS)
The CPS is by the starter.

Looked at that one. There is a blank plate (cover plate) in that location. Guess I need to go get a Chiltons.(or shopkey)

The HO has a hall effect switch located above and inside of the VP44, on the back side of the timing gear housing. You cannot miss it, it is the only item with a wiring connector just above the fuel injection pump.

Cummins eliminated the CKP for those engines, and use the CMP for the timing signal.

Yes Change the cam position sensor by the vp44. I believe its held in by 1 bolt.

The Crank position sensor on your truck is in the block, behind the starter. You have to remove the starter to get to it. It can be quite a bear to get out as they corrode and rust in the block. It's held in by 1 10mm bolt and you can try to lube the heck out of it and pry it out. Caution! - You can break the connector off when trying to pry on it. This can be bad and good. If you break the 90* connector off of it, get a dent puller slide hammer and screw that into the sensor to get it out. Take your time......it's fun sometimes!

BTW - the sensor inbord of the VP44 on the back of the timing cover is the cam sensor......probably not the cause of your trouble.

Did away with crank position sensor after 2000 model year. 2001 uses the cam position sensor.

You may be right.......although I just changed one in an '01 F750 with a 5.9L Cummins in it..........

I just did the KDP kit, (thank you to everyone who posted info on this) The TST instructions say to set the speed sensor to .049-.051" gap. Mine was .034" prior to removal. I have set it to TST specs. What happens if this isn't set right?

Tach won't work and the truck won't charge. A little tight is better than too loose. It should work fine at 0.050, though.
