Help.. Check eng light on
Drove to work no engine light on, depart work after 9 hrs.. Lights on solid.
I checked for codes and it listed nothing. All gauges normal when running, etc. Where should I start with no code?? Disconnect battery for 10 minutes??
BTW the truck just turned 54,000 miles.

UPDATE- Now this morning I started it up and and the check engine light turned off at startup (like normal) . I guess thats good but what would cause it to stay on for two days (25 miles/ 35 minutes of run time), then turn off by its self?

The CEL light will come on when a code or problem is detected. If the problem is not present, the CEL will turn off on its own after 4 full start run cycles. Now a DTC code should still show.
The sequence you used with the key is to check and display Instrument Cluster codes.
To view DTC codes just turn key on/off, on/off, on and leave on and it will display any DTCs stored.

Ah crap, I did it that way a while ago when I read the thread but forgot about that sequence. I did it a year ago to see if it worked and saw no codes. THANKS for pointing me in the right dirrection!
Now I'm seeing code P 0514. Guess I'll search for what that means and what to do!

I found that p0514 code is called "battery temp rationality" I also see many say something along the line of- "I get the p0514 every winter. Mainly due to having subzero temps and plugging the truck in with a battery pad. I ignore it as most do, up here anyways."
It is winter here and my batteries are goin on 7 years old. I guess I'll be going looking at getting two new batteries.
Any recommendations / do's or don'ts? I have always had good luck with SEARS DIE HARD batteries. Thanks Shan-

Is it under warranty? I've heard the sensor could have failed... Should be a minor repair. Good luck!

Oooops, you beat me to the post!!
I've always found Interstates work hard and long for me, but Die Hard are VERY highly rated in the last Consumer Reports I read about batteries.
I suppose every battery is different, and maybe car batteries are built differently than truck batteries.... 7 years is a good run for your batteries....

I was impressed with 7 years on the OEM battery but they still seem to be good too. Cranks over easy and fast and its been in the 20s-30 here too. I also see posts where some are getting as much as 9yrs on their batteries.
Now should I blow the $$$ on new batteries based on a code or clear it and wait? I dont have a battery load tester.. I dont know how to clear the code either. back to my search friend.

It'll be seven years old in July and I have to take it in for some TC issues ( make noise when 4wd is engaged..chain maybe). I dont know if this is covered in that drivetrain warranty. As soon as the weather warms u a little, I'll drop it off so I can commute on my bike. Dealer dont have loaners go figure.

I was actually talking about taking the truck in for Transfer Case warranty repair, not battery issues- unless it is covered under that 7yr/70k warranty(?).
I'm not sure where that sensor even is..
